Happy Year of the Golden Ox/Cow!
February 12, 2021 marks the beginning of the year 4718 in the Chinese lunar calendar, and this year is going to be a "golden ox" year.

In Chinese, the Jersey breed of cattle would be called yellow/golden in color, and as fortune would have it, Central Ohio is home to the American Jersey Cattle Association! Not only are they golden, but they're cute as heck.

Instead of holding a Chinese New Year gala in 2021, the Chinese Chamber will hold an online all-member meeting on February 17th. If you are not currently a member, there is still time to join before the meeting! Please email Pat McAloon for details.

In this jam-packed issue of the Greater Columbus Chinese Chamber of Commerce newsletter, you will find the following:

  • Chinese Chamber Member Spotlight: Scholaris Academic Editing

  • Chinese Chamber Member News

  • Chinese Chamber News

  • Renewing communication with individuals on our mailing list of 1100+
  • Identifying organizations in Central Ohio for whom Chinese Chamber membership could be a value-add

The Columbus Chinese Chamber of Commerce virtually met leaders from the Foreign Organizations (China) Office Center ("FOCOC"), a private organization based in Jinan, Shandong that helps overseas organizations connect with business, education, and government offices in Shandong and beyond.

Shandong, like Ohio, is strong in both manufacturing and agriculture, with particular strengths in:

  • Oil & gas production
  • Gold mining
  • Peanuts, garlic, cotton
  • White goods (e.g., refrigerators, washing machines)
  • Alcohol (Tsingtao Beer, Zhangyu wine and brandy, Kongfu Jia spirits)
  • Auto manufacturing
  • Steel making and steel products

FOCOC can help you identify potential partners in China, as well as triangulate information you are getting from existing partners in Shandong.

To connect with FOCOC, contact Chinese Chamber ED Pat McAloon
Joining organizations such as the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Columbus Partnership, BioOhio, Ohio Restaurant Association, Ohio Business Roundtable, Ohio Realtors, and many others, the Columbus Chinese Chamber signed onto the Ohio Business for Immigration Solutions (OBIS) Ohio Compact on Immigration.

This coalition of business associations, organized by CHW Advisors, seeks to part of the discussion as the Federal government addresses many issues in immigration reform, including many aspects of how work visas are awarded.

If your organization would like to get involved directly, please visit the OBIS website.
