Published by the Village of Union Grove - January 2021
We hope you and your family have had a safe and happy holiday season, and that you will have a prosperous 2021! Please note that the Village offices are closed today, January 1, and will re-open on Monday, January 4 at 8 a.m.
Christmas Tree Disposals
Union Grove DPW will pick up Christmas trees left at the edge of the road during the month of January. Lights, ornaments and other decorations must be removed for trees to be collected. Only Christmas trees will be collected and no other yard waste or branches can be collected at this time.
Property Tax Payments Due January 31
The first installment of property taxes are due by January 31. Payments may be made by mail, dropbox or in-person at the Union Grove Municipal Center. Payments made by mail must be postmarked by January 31 in order to be accepted as timely. Payments may also be made online (processing fee applies). After January 31, tax payments must be made to the Racine County Treasurer’s Office. If you need a copy of your bill, you can find it online using Racine County's MyTaxBill web app or contact the Village office at 262-878-1818.
Snow and Ice Removal Reminders
  • Sidewalks - Snow and ice is required to be removed from the full width of the sidewalk within 24 hours of the end of snowfall by the owner, occupant or person in charge of the property located along the sidewalk. If snow or ice is not cleared, the Village may have it cleared and the owner will be sent a statement for the actual labor cost of removal by the Village.

  • Disposal of Snow into the Street - Blowing or disposing snow into the street is prohibited.

  • Fire Hydrants - Residents are responsible for clearing snow around fire hydrants that are adjacent to their property.

  • Snow Emergencies - A snow emergency may be declared by the Village in the event of hazardous weather conditions (typically when there is at least 3 inches of accumulation of a 24 hour period). During a snow emergency, vehicles cannot be parked on any public street in the Village. Emergencies are announced on the Village website and local media outlets (WTMJ-TV, WDJT-TV, WISN-TV and WITI-TV).
Channel 25 Back on the Air
Spectrum Cable Channel 25 is back on the air after being down due to technical issues. The public access channel provides upcoming Village meeting dates as well as community events. Important announcements may also be displayed from time to time. If you do not get Channel 25, similar information can be found on the Village website. If you would like to request a community event to be displayed on Channel 25, please contact Village Clerk Rebecca Wallendal at or 262-878-1818. Note that events must be open to the general public and for non-profit purposes.
2021 Collections Calendar
The 2021 Residential Garbage & Recycling Collections calendar was enclosed with the property tax bills and copies can also be downloaded by clicking here. The calendar contains Johns Disposal garbage, recycling and yard waste dates, as well as Union Grove DPW brush collection dates. Starting in 2021, there will be two yard waste collections per month (instead of one) and they will be offered on the second and fourth Fridays (March-November). All other garbage and recycling collection schedules will remain the same in 2021.
Canopy Hill Updates
On December 7, the Plan Commission held a public hearing and subsequently recommended conditional approval of zoning and land division applications submitted by Bear Development. The recommendations were conditioned upon revisions outlined by the Village Planner. The Village Board will consider the Plan Commission’s recommendations on January 4. To the view the Village Planner's memo and the developer's applications, visit the Current Development Projects webpage.
Pet License Reminder
Attention dog and cat owners: don't forget to obtain annual licenses! The fee for the license is $10.00 per neutered/spayed animals and $15.00 for un-neutered/un-spayed animals. Village ordinance requires proof of rabies vaccinations for all cats and dogs. If you have licensed your pet in the past, and the rabies vaccination is still good, you do not need to submit proof - we have it on file. However, if this is a new license, or if your animal was vaccinated in the last year, please provide the certificate from the veterinarian. All animal licenses are due no later than April 1, 2021. After that, a $10.00 penalty will be assessed for each animal, and added to the license fee. If you are requesting licenses by mail or dropbox, please submit your payment and rabies certificate with a license application form.
