PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings NTMCA Members!

Happy New Year! Wow! What a year 2020 was. Although I am glad 2020 is behind us, I know each of us has some new tools in our toolbox that we will take with us into 2021. Great leaders are always open to new ideas and stepping up to the plate. You are all fantastic leaders and your city is blessed to have you. Do not forget that!
December Holiday Celebration Recap
I want to thank Assistant City Secretary Amanda Jacobs, City of Bedford, and NTMCA Board Liaison and Deputy City Secretary Lindsay Wells, City of Euless, for thinking outside the box for our first ever “virtual” holiday party. It was so much fun playing a virtual “What’s on your phone”! I also want to thank Administrative Services Director/City Secretary Laurie Wilson – City of Carrollton, for a wonderful online auction benefitting the Alyce Deering Scholarship Committee. The auction brought in over $600 to go toward educational scholarships! You all did a great job on short notice. Thank you for your creativity and leadership!

It was so nice to have retired city secretaries Linda Rhodes and Norma Zenk join our holiday party. It was great to see their faces and catch up for a sec. They look fantastic! See for yourself!

January Speaker – Save the Date
January 21, 2021 11:00 a.m.

Our January speaker is Senior Public Information Officer Moraima Mcgraw from the City of San Antonio. Moraima will speak to us on Public Information Requests. Moraima is the City of San Antonio's Open Records Supervisor/Senior Public Information Officer in the Department of Government and Public Affairs. She has eight years of experience overseeing open records for the City of San Antonio and three years in Webb, County. Moraima monitors and reviews all daily requests (500+) submitted to the City. She provides ongoing training for City Open Records departmental liaisons. In 2016, Moraima conducted an ORR training session for paralegals visiting from several Latin American Countries in their native language of Spanish. Moraima has also worked to improve the ORR transparency process for the City of San Antonio by managing the GovQA and eDiscovery digital systems.

Here is your Kindness Korner encouragement for January.

So a little story, way back when my daughter was a teenager, she had some, well, sassy attitude let’s say. (Shocker right? A teen with attitude?) This kindness saying is a personal favorite of mine. I shared this with my daughter during those teen years as the opportunities presented themselves, for a period of time…. until her eyes started rolling to the back of her head. Then one day before I could say it, she said “I know mom… you will never be sorry you were nice to someone” (Envision eye roll here) Fast forward 10 years, my girl brought it up in conversation and said she never forgot the saying and tries to remember it in challenging situations. Just when you think they never listened. Be encouraged!

Membership Drive

Member participation is the HEART of our organization and with the start of a new fiscal year now is the time to join or renew your membership. As we have all struggled to navigate through these difficult times of COVID-19, it is the years of diverse knowledge and education within NTMCA that has allowed our chapter members to overcome the challenges. Our chapter is only as strong as our membership and we need your participation as a NTMCA member to tackle 2021! 
 
The NTMCA Membership Application can be paid through Paypal. Please forward a copy of the application to Christine Green at cgreen@uptexas.org advising her that the dues were paid online. 
 
In order to take advantage of the member rate for luncheons, members must be up to date on their dues.
 
NTMCA membership affords benefits such as support, education, and networking opportunities through:
  • Meetings in regional chapters of TMCA with your professional counterparts from nearby cities
  • NTMCA’s Yahoo Group
  • The NTMCA newsletter
  • Exclusive access to the online NTMCA membership directory
 
NTMCA members also have the opportunity to:
  • Participate in the selection of the North Texas Municipal Clerk of the Year Award
  • Serve on Association committees if eligible
  • Apply for scholarships and travel stipends if eligible
