January 2021
Happy New Year!

I know we are all ready to turn the page on 2020. What a horrendous year! May 2021 bring the sight of people’s faces and the ability to commune without fear! But before we move forward, I’d like to take a moment to give thanks for some of the elements of 2020.

Particularly, I want to thank all of you, our friends and customers, for supporting us through the pandemic and the holidays. There were many days in March and April when I questioned whether the bookstores could survive. But then the web orders started coming in. And when we opened again in June, sales through the rest of the year were strong enough to carry us into 2021. Thank you so much! It was incredibly gratifying for the whole Northshire team to feel your support.

It is my fervent hope that the healthy refocusing of priorities precipitated by the pandemic is carried forward into the coming years. The renewed appreciation of health, family and friends, community, compassion, and buying local can all be sustained and enhanced as we work to recover and rebuild. Keeping perspective is a blessing.

Wishing you all the best in 2021 from the Northshire Team!

Chris Morrow

Please join Northshire Bookstore in partnership with Harper Collins to celebrate the launch of Julia Claiborne Johnson’s Better Luck Next Time, the eagerly anticipated second novel from the bestselling author of Be Frank with Me, a charming story of endings, new beginnings, and the complexities and complications of friendship and love, set in late 1930s Reno.
"Julia Claiborne Johnson's writing is all heart - sweet, funny and sad on every page. Her new novel adds in an absolutely delicious historical fiction setting - a Reno dude ranch for soon-to-be divorcees. The tenderness and humor of this book will stay with me for a long time." ~ Reviewed by Rachel Person

James Comey, former FBI Director and New York Times bestselling author of A Higher Loyalty, uses his long career in federal law enforcement to explore issues of justice and fairness in the US justice system.

In his much-anticipated follow-up to A Higher Loyalty, Comey uses anecdotes and lessons from his career to show how the federal justice system works. From prosecuting mobsters as an Assistant US Attorney in the Southern District of New York in the 1980s to grappling with the legalities of anti-terrorism work as the Deputy Attorney General in the early 2000s to, of course, his tumultuous stint as FBI director beginning in 2013, Comey shows just how essential it is to pursue the primacy of truth for federal law enforcement.

Saving Justice is gracefully written and honestly told, a clarion call for a return to fairness and equity in the law.

Pre-order Highlight

From Kristin Hannah, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone, comes an epic novel of love and heroism and hope, set against the backdrop of one of America’s most defining eras—the Great Depression.

Texas, 1934. Millions are out of work and a drought has broken the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. One of the darkest periods of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance.

In this uncertain and dangerous time, Elsa Martinelli—like so many of her neighbors—must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or go west, to California, in search of a better life. The Four Winds is an indelible portrait of America and the American Dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.
