EUP Business Impact Survey
In order to assist in determining how the Eastern Upper Peninsula has been specifically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we urge EUP business owners/managers to complete the survey in the link below.

This brief survey, which should take 5-10 minutes to complete, asks various questions as to how the pandemic affected the business, how the owners/managers responded, and how future business plans may have changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The results are confidential and will only be used in combination with other responses to guide our planning and business assistance efforts.

USCG Vinyl Program
A Note From the SSM EDC:
In 2017 we launched the USCG Vinyl Program as a part of a larger goal to become a U.S. Coast Guard City. 40-60 NEW USCG families arrive each summer, and having a community that is welcoming is crucial to everyone’s success. This program can be beneficial to any business by creating free advertising on our website (saultedc.com/uscg) and with occasional pushes on social media, to get new customers into your business. We can also distribute your company information in the welcome binders that we distribute each summer to these incoming USCG families. If you are interested in participating simply email Tracey at [email protected]. The program is delivered at no-cost to the participants.
Exciting New Things Happening at
Superior Café AND at
Superior Coffee Roasting Co Inc.
If you driving down Portage Ave in Downtown Sault Ste Marie you may notice a brand new business sign that pops out at you. Superior Cafe located at 215 W. Portage Ave. Sault Ste. Marie, MI recently updated their signage on the outside of their business to a brand new one that makes the Café stand out more to people passing by. However, the sign is not the only thing you will soon notice is different. Owner, Ron Kurnik, has all new windows and doors on order and should be here and installed in the next couple weeks as well. Its great to see business owners updating, caring, and maintaining their business buildings. Mr.Kurnik also has been busy at the location of his other business Superior Coffee Roasting Co. Inc. located at 2611 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste Marie, MI where he had an addition built on to his building to properly allow him to expand his roasting operations and make for easier distribution. We here at the Chamber wish Ron the best success in both of the locations.
Superior Cafe is open with their normal business hours:
Mon-Fri 6am-6pm
Sat-Sun 8am-5pm
They are doing regular pick up or curbside pick up.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
DAY OF SERVICE
SAULT STE MARIE – Due to the hardships we continue to face through COVID-19, United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, RSVP, felt it even more important this year to find ways to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Through our partnership with Bayliss Public Library and passionate volunteers, we are providing support in the community by serving to bridge the gap between generations during a time where many are feeling isolated.

At United Way we have been focusing on isolated seniors throughout the EUP and finding ways to help keep our community connected. Our goal for this year’s Day of Service is to be that connection for those that feel like they aren’t connected. Being homebound can feel isolating enough but with the added factor of a global pandemic, the feelings of isolation can be exponential. We have planned a contactless day of service to ensure that everyone in the community can remain as safe as possible. A card making craft kit and letter writing activity will be made available, free of charge, to members of our community who would like to help share some of their joy this month. These cards and letters will then be safely redistributed to local seniors, reminding them that they are not alone.
We encourage the community to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and get involved to spread light and positivity throughout the EUP. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out have, only love can do that." – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Kits will be available for pickup at Bayliss Library beginning Tuesday, January 19th until Friday, January 22nd. Kits will then need to be returned to the Bayliss or the United Way office, located at 511 Ashmun St. Suite 200 (2nd floor of Huntington Bank building) in downtown Sault Ste. Marie by Monday January 25th. If you have any questions or are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer in the community, contact us at 906-632-3700, ext. 3 or email [email protected].
