Hello!

It's hard to believe we're only three weeks into 2021! It's been a long month in which big questions around justice, truth and democracy have been asked. Last year, we focused on trying to define justice. This year, we will be focusing on what PILI can do to bring increased access to justice in Illinois. PILI can act as the gateway through which the legal community serves.

In this newsletter, you can read more of an introduction to that theme, as well as learn more about our upcoming programs and events. We also share highlights from our 2020 Internship & Fellowship Programs.

We hope you will join us in 2021 as we try to open the gateway to justice ever wider and help more people in need.

Sincerely,
In Illinois, PILI is the gateway through which the legal community serves. PILI converts gifts of time and money into system-wide positive impact—together, we not only directly serve those who need legal help, but also engage, inspire and empower those advancing equal access to justice. Illinois Free Legal Answers is a virtual legal clinic where low-income Illinois residents can submit a question online to ask a lawyer for help with a legal issue. We're seeing an increase in questions during the COVID-19 Pandemic and need more volunteers to answer questions. Learn more.

Self-represented litigants in the Illinois Appellate Court face many unique challenges without adequate resources to assist them through the appellate process. This platform is the first-ever virtual legal advice clinic for civil appeals in Illinois. Volunteer lawyers with appellate experience are needed! Learn more.

IL-AFLAN provides civil legal services across Illinois to veterans, active duty military and their spouses and dependents and PILI refers pro bono matters in the 101 counties outside of Cook County. Help us serve those who have served us!  Learn more.

Highlights from 2020 Evaluations
Each of PILI's Interns and Fellows fills out service tracking and evaluation forms. At the end of each semester, we gather the results and publish highlights, including quotes and statistics from Interns, Fellows and their Supervisors. You can read these highlights from 2020 on our website.
