January 2021 Updates
PRESIDENT'S NOTES
Welcome to the first World Trade Center Delaware Newsletter of 2021. We are optimistic that this year will bring unmatched opportunities to the many companies, organizations, agencies, and partners we serve. The past few months have introduced people around the world to the state of Delaware, attention that will continue to grow following the Inauguration of Delaware’s own Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. Already, we are receiving inquiries from across the globe and look forward to helping you make the most of this exciting time.

Each year, our magazine International Delaware focuses on a sector of Delaware’s economy, initiating a year of programs around this theme. The current theme is Fintech. On January 8th, we started the year by co-sponsoring A TASTE OF UK INNOVATION: ALL THINGS FINTECH & SCOTCH with the UK Embassy, a unique and fun way to learn about opportunities with our British financial partners. On February 5th,  we will present ARE YOU READY FOR BLOCKCHAIN? with Michael Marquardt, internationally renowned digital transformation expert and CEO of Global Kompass Strategies, Inc., advisor to companies and governments across the globe. Look for other programs throughout the year featuring the best of Delaware’s e-commerce, IT, and cyber security companies.

We also are preparing a group of programs beginning in March and continuing throughout the year to introduce you to the newest World Trade Centers in other countries. Look out for lots of virtual trade missions, reverse trade missions, and programs featuring our partner organizations to help you refine your international marketing plans and reach potential buyers and suppliers. Please check out our website’s Events, Trade Leads, Job Opportunities, and News You Can Use. And let us know if you have specific requests. We are here to serve you.

Staying in Contact During COVID

As we enter the second year of many of us working from home due to the COVID pandemic, customers expect that companies will offer secure and reliable digital communications services and professional meeting environments. At this stage, the lack of an IT department or conference center is no excuse for recurring communications breakdowns or inappropriate “meeting rooms”.

Customers expect that your employees will have working WIFI connections and mobile phone service. Unfortunately, not all of your staff members may have access to business quality high speed WIFI connections at home. Some areas have better cell reception than others. Children attending school over the internet add additional burdens to home-level technology. In addition, not all digital communications platforms work well on all computers. Some very secure platforms have specific hardware or software requirements.
It goes without saying that virtual conference calls conducted in messy playrooms, kitchens, or bedrooms are completely unprofessional and do not reflect well on your company’s products or services. However, not all homes have dedicated offices. Even those that do may have offices that are completely inadequate for digital meetings. Dim lighting, echoes from walls or floors, or sound leaking from normal family activities, may distract your viewer. We are all familiar with the videos of small children or pets showing up in the middle of a television interview. It happened with some frequency to some of the most famous journalists or public figures at the beginning of the pandemic. However, at this point, it is more of an annoyance than cute.

Stat International can customize your phone service package to include call forwarding services, 24/7 access to voicemail, and live phone reception during normal business hours, allowing your employees to speak with customers at a time convenient and distraction-free for both the staff and customer. Conference facilities allow staff to conduct distraction-free virtual meetings in a professional office environment with the added advantage of white board technology and audio capacity for multiple computer connectivity across the globe. For more information, 302-884-6746.

International Delaware Magazine Released by World Trade Center Focuses on FinTech in the First State

The World Trade Center Delaware has released its fourth edition of International Delaware Magazine which focuses on Delaware's growing FinTech industry.

“Little did we know when we first discussed the theme for this issue just how timely this edition would be,” said World Trade Center Delaware President Carla Stone. “The use of IT and e-commerce exploded during the past eight months as people sought to limit contact with others in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. It is clear that financial technology services, or FinTech, is here to stay and will only grow in the future.”

The foundation for FinTech in Delaware was laid in 1981, when then-Gov. Pierre S. du Pont IV signed the Financial Center Development Act, legislation designed to increase employment in the banking and financial services sector by attracting out-of-state institutions to establish subsidiaries in Delaware. Today, Delaware, despite its tiny population, is one of the world's great financial centers. Over 75% of all FinTech investment in the Philadelphia region is found in Delaware and it has the highest concentration of financial services employment in the entire country according to a study by Delaware Prosperity Partnership. The study, "Delaware in a FinTech Future," reported that Delaware ranks No. 1 per capita for the number of FinTech patents issued over the past ten years in the U.S. and No. 5 overall.

Discover Bank, this issue's presenting sponsor, is making a significant contribution to Delaware's FinTech future. In partnership with the University of Delaware and Delaware Technology Park, Discover is building a new 100,000-square-foot center for FinTech innovation on the university's Science Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus that will combine the prowess of academia, government, and industry to support and grow FinTech's future in Delaware. “We thank Discover and all of our partners who have made this issue of International Delaware possible,” Stone said. “Tens of thousands of readers around the world will learn what we already know: FinTech is the future of commerce and Delaware is its home.”

Batta Wins US Exporter Award

World Trade Center Delaware long-time member Batta Environmental Associates recently received the U.S. Commercial Services Extraordinary Exporter Award in recognition of its work on a U.S. government funded global project helping Mexico City find a solution to clean up one of its contaminated drinking water reservoirs.

Batta has been contracted under a U.S. Trade Development Agency grant for the “Valle de Bravo” project which will explore ways to use U.S. technology and design to provide a path forward in securing funding to provide an environmental solution.

“We are so proud of Batta and wish to congratulate them on their award, it is well deserved,” World Trade Center Delaware President Carla Stone said. “They have been a valued member for many years, and we are all so pleased to have been a part of their growth.”

Headquartered in Newark, Delaware with several offices in the Mid-Atlantic, Batta provides environmental engineering products and services such as consulting, training and testing that help in purifying soil, water and air, aiding with environmental cleanup and removal of hazardous materials, oil spills, lead and asbestos contamination and much more. The firm works with federal, state and local governments as well as corporate companies.

Because Batta is expanding its services to international territories and developing countries that are looking for U.S. guidance in solving their environmental challenges, Neeraj Batta, Senior Vice President of the company, said membership in the state’s World Trade Center has been invaluable. “Our membership has really been a great benefit, opening doors to different networking events and allowing us to gain marketing intelligence through accessing Worth Trade Centers in other cities globally.”

Neeraj is a second-generation owner in the company, which was founded by his family 38 years ago. “International expansion has always been on our radar the past five to seven years,” he added. “Our goal is to continue to expand in this area; this is exactly the time and place to be to use our global partnerships and services to bring environmental solutions that are needed in the world.”
