Semester Two Has Begun
With the start of Semester 2, we are now officially half way through the school year!
We are very excited to offer you our first parent education speaker of the year with a workshop from Safer Schools Together. Details are in the next section of the newsletter. Please join us for this highly recommended workshop on social media awareness and digital citizenship.
The What's Next Committee has provided guests from VCC and BCIT since the start of the year. Materials from What's Next presentations are available on the Kits PAC website. See the Upcoming PAC Events section of this newsletter to find out about the upcoming What's Next events.
Plans for the first PAC Pub Night of the school year are also underway. Please keep a look out for more details.
All parents are welcome and encouraged to come to PAC meetings. You will learn more about what is happening at the school and hear from :
- invited speakers on topics of interest to parents
- updates from the Principal, Ms Kwon
- updates from teacher representatives and student council
This month the focus will be on the review and approval of a second round of teacher funding requests for extra-curricular activities and supplies.

The David Suzuki Foundation is accepting applications to be a volunteer Butterflyway Ranger.
Their mission is to plant native wildflowers in yards, schoolyards, streets and parks to support bees and butterflies. The program began in 2017 and has established local “Butterflyways” by planting at least a dozen pollinator patches in neighbourhoods and communities across Canada.
Butterflyway Rangers contribute to the Butterflyway Project in a variety of ways, from reaching out to friends and neighbours, organizing educational and planting events, and growing and distributing native plants. To apply to become a Butterflyway Ranger in 2022, please fill out the application form below by February 13, 2022. More information here.

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House

With the new updated health and safety protocols, drop-in is starting every Friday from 4:30-7:00 pm, except February 25th. Monthly Movie Night will be on February 25th, from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. This will be a free event and participants will get a special snack pack. In addition, we will also provide pizza for a $5 fee, please pay cash at the door. Subsidies for the cost of pizza are available so please speak with Chris Y at Kits House if you require one. Sign up for the movie night by sending an email to chrisy@kitshouse.org. Let us know if you would like to have the pizza too so we know how much to order. Space is limited.

Lounge Day continues to run Online, every Tuesday from 4:30 - 6:00. This is a place for kids in grades 7 – 12 to drop-in and hang out with other teenagers in a safe space right in their own community. Cost: FREE. Drop-Ins will often include activities and special events such as movie nights, while Lounge day will be less structured and a place for teens to hang out and chat with friends. Pre-registration is required due to COVID-19. Check their website to find out more about upcoming online activities or subscribe to their newsletter.
The Alliance Française Vancouver

The Alliance Française Vancouver, in its desire to provide access to creative, cultural and educational activities in French, in particular for youth, families and seniors, is launching the project “Il était une Fois Vancouver/Once upon a time Vancouver”. CPF is a wonderful resource. Check out their website here. The British Columbia & Yukon Chapter hosts summer family French camps in the Okanagan, Gwillim Lake and Vancouver Island. More information here.
Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre (BC Children's Hospital)
- BC Children’s Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre provides peer support, information, and resources to help you talk to and guide a youth in your life to the services and supports they may need.
- Find tips for starting a conversation with your youth about their mental health, how to support a youth who comes to you with concerns, information on how to reach a parent peer support worker at the Kelty Centre, and additional resources and tools.
- Foundry, a unit at Kelty, offers young people ages 12-24 resources and services online and through centres across BC, including virtual counselling and youth peer support.
