Art Appreciation in Winter 2022
Scarsdale Adult School has a full assortment of Zoom-based art appreciation courses coming up in the next few weeks to keep you warm and engaged throughout the winter days. Transport yourself virtually to explore museum exhibits, view carefully curated private collections, take a deep dive into a particular artist or movement, or go on an armchair tour of New York's galleries and public installations.

This Monday, students will have an opportunity to explore Faith Ringgold's Story Quilts and Paintings (10956) with Jeffrey Mishur, just a few weeks before a comprehensive exhibit featuring over sixty years of her work opens at the New Museum on February 17, 2022. This ninety-one year old artist made headlines recently after requesting that her first public art commission, a 1972 mural at Rikers Island dedicated to incarcerated women in the complex, be relocated to the Brooklyn Museum out of safety concerns. That piece will be on loan to the New Museum for its exhibit.
On Tuesday, students may enjoy Museum Virtual Visit: Jasper Johns: Mind/Mirror (10904), a retrospective held concurrently at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and at the Whitney Museum of American Art through mid February. Riva Blumenfeld will examine the many highlights of Jasper Johns’s seven-decade-long career.

Then on Friday, journey behind the lens for three unique classes on famous female photographers. Ronnit Vasserman begins her study with Cindy Sherman (10968). Subsequent weeks explore Francesca Woodman (10969) and then Diane Arbus (10970).
