The map included here outlines the areas impacted by the recent tornadoes—a huge swath covering the entire length of our diocese.

All of our church buildings were left intact but many parishioners are still grieving family and friends lost in the storm, or who were significantly injured. Parishioners have lost their homes, car, and possessions, as have their family, friends, and neighbors. The amount of loss is overwhelming.

If you were directly impacted by the storms, know that you are not alone. We are praying with and for you, and we can assist in connecting you to resources. Your neighbors, your Christian family, care for you.

You can find our tornado response webpage with various resources here. 14 counties in our diocese are under Federal Disaster Assistance—if you live in these counties you may be eligible for federal assistance. You can learn more on FEMA’s Kentucky disaster declaration website. 

Pray for everyone impacted. If you have a prayer request, please submit it via email here. Members of the Daughters of the King across the diocese will pray for you.

For those outside the area, the most effective way to help right now is to send a financial contribution that can be used for local needs. Unless you are already trained and connected to a response organization, it is not helpful to go into the affected area.

The Bishop’s Discretionary Fund can get funding to our congregations quickly, and is an easy way to get funds to churches in the path of the tornado that are not currently able to accept online donations. Some of these congregations have parishioners living in Mayfield. We are already beginning to distribute funds for urgent needs.

The 193rd Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky, in resolution #4, prioritized the offering of the anti-racism training required for all ordained persons, professional staff, and those elected or appointed to committees, commissions, agencies, task forces, and boards in accordance Resolution 2000-B049 of The General Convention. 

The Commission for Racial Healing is pleased to announce that workshops on Dismantling Racism are now be offered for clergy and laity within our diocese. The General Convention of the Episcopal Church has stipulated that all diocesan and parish leaders are required to participate in such training.

The Kentucky Department of Public Health is currently reporting a 27.77% positivity rate for Covid-19. In response to this current rise in positivity we encourage clergy and lay leadership to adapt worship and ministries to assist in keeping their committees safe, including the following recommendations:

St. Luke's is seeking a full-time parish administrator to coordinate and facilitate the work of the Rector and parish with the functioning of the overall physical and fiscal operation of St. Luke’s Church; and to communicate and establish rapport with parishioners and the community. The Very Reverend Katherine Doyle has concluded her service as Rector of St. Thomas, Louisville this week. You can view photos and livestream of the leave-taking liturgy held on January 9th on St. Thomas’ facebook page here. Katherine and her husband Chris, who served as chair of the All Saints Board, are moving to Virginia following Chris’ appointment as Executive Director of the Boys Home of Virginia in Covington, VA. Katherine will continue her work as diocesan youth coordinator as we prepare for the 2022 camping season.

Ordinations to the diaconate for Billy Adams, Ken Casey, and Pete Womack are scheduled to be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville, February 12, at 11:00 am eastern time. More information will be forthcoming as necessary covid protocols become clearer.

We have seen an increase in fraudulent email scams. Please know that no one on the diocesan staff will ever reach out to you for financial assistance. If you receive such an email, please report it as spam and delete it.
