We invite you to view the first video in this year’s digital series, “This is Benedict’s.” Watch as students, faculty and staff highlight the many reasons that make The Hive a model for urban education in the U.S.
Our Building Bridges program, a groundbreaking initiative that brings St. Benedict's Prep students and New Jersey State Troopers together to foster trust and understanding between communities of color and law enforcement, was recently featured on CBS Evening News. Click here to watch the segment and find out how you can support the program.

From the Headmaster’s Desk
One-on-One with Steve Adubato will interview Fr. Edwin to talk about our Building Bridges program and our work to connect our student community and law enforcement. The episode airs in March -- stay tuned for our announcement about when to watch!

Fr. Edwin and Chief Advancement Officer Michael Fazio will join our partners from Erbach Communications at the upcoming CASE District II Annual Conference in New York City on February 14 to present "The Newark School That Could: $100 Million Campaign Success." CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) is a global non-profit with a mission to advance education to transform lives and society.
Athletics
The Gray Bee indoor track team qualified both of its 4x400-meter relay teams to the Private School finals at the Millrose Games on Jan. 29 at the New York City Armory. The “A” team, consisting of Langston Scott, Iyad Boxton, Temiloluawa Adesetan and Malique Jackson, ran third best time in New Jersey this season (3:29.55) at the Millrose Trials on Jan. 12.

St. Benedict’s boys and girls basketball teams returned to action for the first time in the new year last week and each posted victories over The Hill School (PA). The boys received a floater in the lane from Ty-Laur Johnson with 1.7 seconds left to seal a 64-62 victory. The girls posted a 48-43 verdict behind a 17-point effort from Alani Gordon. Both teams had games last week with Blair – the girls on Tuesday (Click here for photos of the game) and Boys (View photos of game) on Wednesday.

The fencing team has been dealing with COVID issues all season and wound up shorthanded in its only match of the new year thus far, a setback to Montclair. Coach Rich Molina got most of his starters back in the lineup on Saturday during a tri-meet against Ridge and Montclair in the Cetrulo Family Fencing Center. Click here for photos.

The swimming team had nine qualifiers and a finish of 11th-place Monday at the Essex County Championships at NJIT. The 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay, consisting of Elvis Vintimilla, Javier Hernandez, Alex Benanti and Gabriel Martinez, placed 9th in each event.

The wrestling team currently stands at 6-3 after going 2-1 at the Gilman Duals in Baltimore last weekend. Coach Frank DiPiano’s club meets Peddie at home in Dalton Gymnasium on Tuesday before competing a day later in the Essex County Tournament at the Cody Arena in West Orange.
SAVE THE DATE:

STUDENTS
St. Benedict’s College Matriculation schedule has been busier than usual with the increase in enrollment - nearly 40 more seniors than any previous senior class since the school's reopening. It also has a high proportion of high-achieving students with more than half achieving a GPA of 3.3 or higher, which ultimately resulted in a record number of students who applied Early Decision I (ED1) or Early Action (EA) to colleges. Dean of Seniors and College Placement Didier Jean-Baptiste said, in a typical year, we have perhaps a half dozen students who apply Early Decision. However, this year, the number applying just in this first Early Decision phase was 21 with another 17 applying Early Action. So far students have been accepted to such top-flight schools as Lehigh, Yale, Pennsylvania, Northwestern and Emory. We also have 30 students this semester who just began taking college classes at Rutgers-Newark or NJIT.

The winter production of St. Benedict’s Drama Guild will be CHARLEY'S AUNT by Brandon Thomas, produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, Inc. The farcical play will be portrayed by students from the Boys and Girls Prep Divisions, and the Middle Division. The performance is scheduled for March 10-12 at 7 p.m. and March 13 at 2 p.m. in Conlin Auditorium.
