Farewell to Laurie

After 5 and a half years at HKWHFH, our Director of Development, Laurie Ursiny, is leaving for a new career opportunity. During her time here Laurie created many of the experiences you have shared with us over the years at Harvest of Hope and through Hanover HERO. As a lifelong Hanover local she played a critical role in helping us stay connected across the community and brought her many years of development experience to help us reach our fundraising goals. While we will miss Laurie greatly, we celebrate her next step as the Director of Philanthropy for Covenant Woods and know that she will continue to do good work in this community. Congratulations to Laurie as she starts her new role this week!

With Laurie’s departure, we are looking for a new Director of Development. If you or someone you know is interested, please check out the job posting here.

Pride in Homeownership

When visiting a Habitat homeowner and repair applicant, staff saw this wall display. On the right was a newspaper article about her Habitat home that she cut out and framed. On the left, a plaque presented from USDA Rural Development for 'Homeowner of the Year.' In the middle was a large cross because "God makes everything possible." Such long-standing pride in her home and homeownership!

Home Maintenance Tip

With snow and ice within the last week, we want to remind everyone that during winter storms, you will want to keep your HVAC units clear. If your unit is outdoors, keeping it clear of snow and ice will help prevent damage to the unit, but also keep it from rusting. Snow and ice can also limit airflow which can cause damage. So, while you may not want to head outdoors in these cold temperatures, keeping up with your outdoor HVAC units will keep them healthy in the long run!

We're Moving!

In February of 2022, both the ReStore and administrative offices will be temporarily closing their doors to pack up and move to a new location to better serve the Hanover and King William communities. The ReStore will be larger to accommodate more inventory - including a beautiful space designated just for home goods.

With this change, we need the community's help. We will need volunteers during the move and to spread the news! Learn more here.

Stay tuned for specific dates for our move. The ReStore will reopen on March 1, 2022, at 7199 Stonewall Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111! Until then, continue to shop and donate at our Atlee location!
