OVER 550 OF HIS TROPHIES HAVE BEEN DONATED TO MUSEUMS
Bela Hidvegi was born in Hungary and, despite the hardships his family suffered as a result of World War II, he moved back to Hungary after obtaining a degree in Food Engineering in London. Following a prolific hunting career (which is ongoing), he donated over 300 of his full-mount trophies to the Keszthely Castle Museum and over 250 of his shoulder-mounts to the Sopron Game Management University Museum. His favorite hunting is in both the mountains and the rain forests of the world.

A LATE START!
Africa is the most prolific continent for big game species, but Bela did not even step foot on African soil until he was 56, and most of his mountain hunting occurred after that age also. But he accomplished a lot in the last 30 years!!! with over 120 safaris, shikars, and hunts for over 300 species including 34 Wild Goats and 32 Wild Sheep species (a 30-30).

Hungarian Awards (of which he is most proud)
The National Hunting Order of Hungary in 2009; the Hungarian Chamber of Hunting's highest award in 2012; and the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (the highest civilian award) in 2013.

The Conklin Award
It recognizes "the world's greatest active hunter who pursues game in the most difficult terrain and conditions, while abiding by the highest standards of ethics and fair chase, and is a strong participant in wildlife conservation."
 
The Pantheon Award
From Grand Slam Club/Ovis in cooperation with Safari Club International, this award requires the Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep, an Ovis World Slam Super 30, a Capra World Slam Super 30, the North American 29 Super Slam, and the World Hunting and Conservation Award (the highest honor in SCI's World Hunting Awards program). He was the first European and 8th hunter in the world to qualify for this award.

WRITER, PRODUCER, CONSERVATIONIST
Between hunting trips and his business career (the manufacture of sweet corn processing equipment), Bela has found the time to write 10 hunting books and over 300 articles on hunting and conservation as well as giving numerous speeches and lectures. He was also instrumental in the founding of the Hungarian hunting magazine "Nimrod Safari." And he has produced numerous DVDs and special films on hunting and conservation. His most recent projects were:
 
(1) The Honey Project in Mozambique where he supplied 70 hives and then produced a 5-part film, including a 25-minute summary in English. Half of the honey produced is used by locals and the other half is sold to fund anti-poaching. 
 
(2) The World of Hunting and Nature Exhibition held in Budapest regarding which he was on two organizing committees.
