Thank you so much to everyone who attended and celebrated our official dedication and ribbon cutting in December! LEGO kits are still available for sale, and commemorative bookmarks are available for free while supplies last!
As COVID-19 case numbers continue to climb in Grafton, we have come to the difficult decision to suspend in-person programs and meeting room use until the Delta/Omicron surge abates, effective Monday January 3, 2022. We are able to pivot and offer many programs in virtual or take-home DIY format.
Please check our Library Calendar of Events at graftonlibrary.org/events for details after the first of the year. We will bring back our ukulele class partnership, Mr. Kim, storytime and crafts, gaming, Scout meetings, movie nights and more when it is safe to do so.
All other library services--in-person browsing and materials checkout, reference and research help, computer use, printing, scanning, shredding, faxing, proctoring and notary--remain available.
Thank for your patience and understanding and apologies for any inconvenience this causes.
A reminder that should school be delayed due to inclement weather, morning programs will be canceled and the Library will also delay opening; should school be canceled, the Library is likely to delay or cancel opening, and programs may be canceled. Facebook and our website are the best places to check for this information. Our Inclement Weather Policy can be reviewed online at https://graftonlibrary.org/home/policies/
A final thank you to all who made 2021 such a success in spite of many setbacks, and our best wishes for health, prosperity, peace, and contentment in the 2022.

Donor signage, the donor wall, and Library Hours signage are scheduled for installation mid-January. The Capital Campaign has been generous in funding out of scope or left out items such as art rail and office shelving.
We continue to check off outstanding items from our list of issues. The punch list is small, with a dozen or so outstanding items: gate for stairs, sliding or barn doors for the Community Room and Maker Space, HVAC issues. Security gate software was installed, our panic button system installation is complete, an additional desk is on order, computer software has been ordered, and we are slowly adding sign holders, bulletin boards, white boards, and office supply items.
The Board of Library Trustees voted to fund additional barcode scanners for the Automated Materials Handler so borrowers can see when materials from other libraries have been returned -- these scanners will read all items without an RFID card, alleviating staff from rescanning.
Check out construction photos in our Construction album on our Facebook Page!

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane: A Novel
by Lisa See
In a remote mountain village, the survival of an Akha tribe, one of China’s 55 ethnic minorities, depends on tea. Rigid traditions prohibit Li-yan from keeping her newborn. She saves her daughter by leaving her in a nearby town, wrapped in blankets with a tea cake that hints at her distinctive heritage. Over the course of decades, See (China Dolls, 2014) reveals Li-yan’s exceptional story of departure and eventual return. Interspersed with Li-yan’s peripatetic experiences are those of her daughter, the titular

tea girl, divulged by medical reports, letters, even the transcript of a group therapy session for adopted Chinese teens. See, herself partly of Chinese ancestry, creates a complex narrative that ambitiously includes China’s political and economic transformation, little-known cultural history, the intricate challenges of transracial adoption, and an insightful overview of the global implications of specialized teas. The only possible flaw is that some may consider her magic-wand ending unbelievable. As this is her first book since losing her own mother, bestselling author Carolyn See (to whom it is dedicated), See’s focus on the unbreakable bonds between mothers and daughters, by birth and by circumstance, becomes an extraordinary homage to unconditional love.
