Carolyn Harris Royal Historian Newsletter

Welcome to the January 2022 Edition of

the Carolyn Harris Royal Historian Newsletter!

Happy New Year! In recent weeks, I have written a new article for Reader's Digest about the history of Prince Charles's royal tours of Canada and a new article about Prince Rupert of the Rhine for the Historica Canada Canadian Encyclopedia. I have also discussed a wide variety of royal topics with the media including the history of royal nannies and the challenges faced by the monarchy in 2021. There is a new issue of the Royal Studies Journal, which includes one of my book reviews, and updates about the forthcoming English Consorts: Power, Influence Dynasty series, which I am co-editing with Aidan Norrie, Danna Messer, Elena Woodacre and Joanna Lanyesmith.

New Canadian Encyclopedia Article: Prince Rupert of the Rhine

My latest article in the Canadian Encyclopedia is about King Charles II's cousin, Prince Rupert of the Rhine and his role as First Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. Prince Rupert lived a long and eventful life as a military commander, privateer, courtier and artist, and became one of the most well traveled members of the royal family in the 17th century.
