With the opening this month of the 1.6-mile Phase II of McDowell Creek Greenway, we have completed 76% of the Emerald Necklace, an interconnected, loop greenway system encircling much of Cornelius. The nearly 14-mile system will connect people from where they live to parks, shops, schools, business, and other points of interest throughout the community. Future sections include a 1-mile connector from the south end of McDowell Creek Greenway at Hwy 73 over to the south end of Caldwell Station Creek Greenway at Hwy 21, a 1-mile multi-use trail along Catawba Ave from Hwy 115 to the diverging diamond interchange (DDI), and 1.3 miles of multi-use trail from the DDI down Liverpool Pkwy, Sefton Rd, Jetton Rd Ext, and Catawba Ave to Magnolia Estates Dr. We hope you share our excitement for these projects and we love seeing you out and about, enjoying our beautiful greenways and trails!
