The New Year 2022 is now here!
Make your new year resolutions to include conserving our precious water resource all year long! Conserving our water is not just in times of drought, but all the time. Our water resource from North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is limited especially with all the growth that has been experienced the past few years. The City of Allen purchases treated water from the district and delivers to your tap. Learn More about NTMWD.

City of Allen's First Water Conservation Manager Slated for Retirement in January 2022!

Gail Donaldson became the City's first Water Conservation Manager when the division of Community Services was created in 2007. In her 14 years with the city, she created many Water Conservation Programs including the Block Leader Program, the Sustainable Landscape Series, H20 Youth Education, (this) Water Wisdom newsletter, Residential Sprinkler Evaluation, Earthkind demonstration garden with the Collin County Master Gardeners and many more. She was given several awards for these programs from EPA WaterSense and the Texas section of American Water Works Association. Gail has enjoyed the opportunities to create the programs to help the City of Allen's residents learn best practices to conserve water.
"I will miss working with the residents of Allen. They have been eager to learn about all the landscape topics we provided in the Sustainable Landscape Series, and were very invested in saving water resources."
Gail's last day is January 28.

Learning Opportunities

Each year, the Water Conservation Division hosts The Sustainable Landscape Series. This is normally several "in person" seminars held in City Council Chambers throughout the spring. This series has won several awards from Texas AWWA, and EPA WaterSense.

Many previous year seminars were videotaped. These can be viewed via cable channel on your television, or watched online.

Other virtual classes on horticulture topics can also be found at Rooted In.

Watering Restrictions Reminder

Water restrictions include no sprinkler use during rain or freeze events. From November 1 through March 31, watering IS allowed between 10 am-6 pm. Sprinkler use is only allowed on your designated day up to twice per week. See full restrictions list. Always check your sprinkler controllers after a power outage to make sure it has the correct time and programming! Many times, just a brief power outage or surge during thunderstorms can affect your sprinkler controller and change the time or program. Better yet, keep controllers OFF until you need to water.
