Our MTAC branch will be presenting an all-Beatles music concert on Saturday, May 7th at 4pm. It will be held at Christ's Community Church in Hayward. There will probably be a dress rehearsal for the concert in late April as well, so factor that into your planning. The program will be comprised of students from our branch performing duet, trio, and quartet arrangements of songs by The Beatles. Musical collaboration will be a theme of this concert.
The Beatles songs are perhaps the most extensively notated and transcribed of any group in pop music history. There are plenty of published options when it comes to duet, trio, and quartet arrangements of Beatles music. We have assembled a list of song arrangements along with sheet music links in a Google Sheet. You will find that link below.
After you have found a song arrangement that you are happy with and have students committed to perform the song on May 7th, then type in your information in the Google Sheet. That will reserve the song for you and your students. Each song will be featured in the program only one time. If you have an arrangement of a Beatles song that is not on this list, just add the song at the bottom or create a new row within the song list and add your information. The sign-ups will be first come, first served, so act quickly if this performance opportunity interests you and your students.
If you have any questions about this event or need help selecting a song arrangement, contact Jesse Micek at: [email protected]

Our branch will be hosting an open forum February 9th on Zoom to discuss CM Exam Tips. We will cover a wide range of topics related to the new CM online format. While many of us have strong views on MTAC's choice to move the format online, this event will not be covering that, as our objective is to help teachers adjust to the current guidelines.

Last day to fill in your repertoire, make corrections and convention choices for CM
Testing dates for our branch (North Region 2). These are the 10 days where the students will take the theory, ear training, and sight reading exam. Also the period for uploading repertoire and technique recordings and the scanned music of the pieces. Remember to include the front cover of the book.
Branch Honors and Senior Recital
|
|
Please remind your students to take advantage of the practice theory exams and SR practice tests. You can begin to upload now, so tell your students, if they are ready to do so. Remember to copy the cover of the book along with the music.
I am now only responsible for Branch Honors because that’s the only job left to do for CM and I am willing to fill the position. To make it easier for me, please sign up for convention, because if your student is accepted, then I know they are accepted for Branch honors since the requirements are the same. It doesn’t matter if your students wants to go to convention or not, but it helps me go through the thousand students to pick who gets BH. I will still have to go through the whole list for the Level P to Level 2, or the students who didn’t sign up for convention, because they didn’t pay attention to my request. But this will help me get through it faster.
If you have any information to share regarding CM please let me know! I now know as much as you do. They don’t tell me anything either.
Thanks!

Music Studio for Hourly Rent
|
|
Dear MTAC fellows,
I have a beautiful music studio available for hourly rental (attached images below). It is a one-story retail space in a plaza near the main streets in Fremont. The studio is in a very convenient location with dance studio and after-school learning center as neighbors. I use it for teaching piano but it’s also good for theory and other instrumental lessons. I receive inquiries often so it’s easy to get new students and build up the student body based on your own schedule.
I have some current piano students on regular Mondays need to be transferred in the near future. It’s 4 hours and the schedule is about 245-645pm.
More highlights:
— in-site private restroom
— well maintained and frequently sanitized
— multiple premium acoustic and digital pianos setup ready
— high speed internet included
— spacious and comfortable environment that is good for individual, virtual and small group lessons
— plenty of parking spaces right in front of the shop
The rental rate for a room is $15+ per hour. Feel free to contact me for more details if interested.
