Join us in Celebrating 75 Years of Florida History and Mermaid Magic at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park


On Thursday, January 12, 2023, the 75th Anniversary Celebration will begin at 10:00am with remarks by Park and County officials, followed by the unveiling of 28 life-sized mermaid statues, as well as a plaque recognizing the Adagio statue in front of the park as a National Historic Landmark. Refreshments will follow with opportunities to meet and greet the artists for the Mermaid Tale Trail.

The Mermaid Tale Trail - Coming Soon!

The Unveiling of The Mermaid Tale Trail


​Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitors Bureau is thrilled to announce the unveiling of The Mermaid Tale Trail!


This legacy project coincides with the 75th anniversary of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park – Home of the World-Famous Mermaids. In honor of the Park’s anniversary, 27 mermaid statues will be placed throughout the entire County. Each is hand-painted by a selected artist promoting Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville-Weeki Wachee.



Festivities will begin at 10 AM, January 12, 2023. The unveiling is free to attend with paid park admission. In addition, a plaque for National Historic Designation will be unveiled for the famed Adagio Statue located at the park entrance. Dianne Wyatt McDonald, one of the first mermaids who performed on opening day in 1947 and co-creator of the Adagio pose, will be present for the dedication. Afterward, there will be opportunities to meet and greet the artists and see their statues for The Mermaid Tale Trail!

The Famed Adagio Pose


One of the most iconic symbols of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is the Adagio pose. It has been synonymous with the park and included in logos, letterhead, and most recognizable, the statue adorning the main entrance to the park.


On January 12, 2023. the statue and the park will dedicate a plaque celebrating its recent recognition as a historic landmark. 92-year-old, Dianne Wyatt McDonald, one of the first mermaids who performed on opening day in 1947 and co-creator of the Adagio pose, will be present for the dedication.
