Hello

The times they are a changin’ here in Maryland as we welcome Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller, a new state legislature and Frederick delegation, a new Secretary of Commerce, Kevin Anderson and a new County Executive, Jessica Fitzwater.  Bob Dylan penned his song about changin’ times in 1964, and he had it right when he once said, “There is nothing so stable as change.”  Businesses know that that change is critical for sustainability, and business expansion is a hallmark of community health.  This issue of Frederick Business eNews is chock full of amazing business expansion stories here in Frederick despite ongoing headwinds from COVID, inflation, supply chain, and worker shortages.  Read about some of the amazing local businesses currently investing in change through new or renovated spaces, production upgrades, jobs, training, technology, and products. Business investment is a sign of confidence in future financial returns and in the local community. Frederick is indeed fortunate to be home for over 3,700 businesses including over 40 new businesses in 2022 – many of which are small, minority, or women owned enterprises. I am proud of the role the City's Department of Economic Development (DED) and our partners play in supporting these and other businesses as they bring change.  If your business is looking for change, let us know how we can help.

Best,
Richard G. Griffin, AICP, CEcD
