"Staring Down the Wolf: 7 Leadership Commitments That Forge Elite Teams" by Mark Divine -Book Reviewed by TLP Cohort #8 Member
This book was written by a retired Navy seal who commanded elite teams throughout his 20-year military career. This book talks about what it takes to form elite teams and the commitment it takes to be a good leader. It focuses on seven key principles to being a great leader: Courage, Trust, Respect, Growth, Excellence, Resiliency, and Alignment. The title “Staring Down the Wolf” refers to your “fear wolf” which everyone has. Feeding your fear wolf refers to your flaws which can limit your ability to be a good leader and limit your ability in life. Negative behaviors, childhood trauma, bad relationships and poor physical fitness are all flaws that would fall into the category of feeding the “fear wolf.” It talks about how to overcome these obstacles and how you can overcome your negative behaviors and flaws to enable you to become a better leader and role model for your teams.
I found this book to be very helpful in pointing out some things that I might be feeding my "fear wolf”; which made me realize that I could become a better leader and a better person if I just cut a few things out of my life that weren’t very beneficial in the first place. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to become a stronger leader and a better person in general.
