Welcome to those who are subscribers as well as those who are reading my newsletter for the first time. As we begin the new year Mars, Mercury, and Uranus are still retrograde but they will be moving direct on the 12th, 18th, and 22nd respectively. Scroll below for information about Mars going direct, and in Part 2 of January 2023 News and Views I will write about Saturn re-entering sidereal Aquarius on January 16th (for those who practice Indian astrology), Mercury stationing direct on the 18th, and Uranus going direct. After Uranus stations direct, we will enter a period where planets are all direct until April 21, 2023 when Mercury retrogrades. At that time things may move ahead quickly and we may have to make major decisions without as much time to investigate.
I speak a lot about this period of planets moving direct in the 2023 Sensitive Degrees Webinar, which I presented as a 7-hour presentation in two parts. This month's lunations occur with the Full Moon on January 6, 2023, 23:07 GMT. Tropical. 16° Cancer 21’. Sidereal. 22° Gemini 16’. punarvasū and with the New Moon on January 21, 2023, 20:53. Tropical. 1° Aquarius 32'. Sidereal. 7° Capricorn 27’. uttarāṣāḍhā. If you have any planets, points, or angles around those degrees (I would take a one degree orb) then whatever is represented by that planet, point or angle, will be prominent and important until the next lunation, meaning that if something is conjunct this month's Full Moon, it will be prominent until the next Full Moon on February 5, 2023, and if something is conjunct this month's New Moon, it will be prominent until the next New Moon on February 20, 2023. The New Moon represents new beginnings and can help you to institute a change you have been thinking about while the Full Moon is an accomplishment or culmination and gives the push to continue on that path. If your birthday is between January 5-7, then the Full Moon is in your solar return (varṣaphala) or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that it may be year when things you have been working on will manifest, or feel like they are moving in the right direction, so continue with whatever is fulfilling you. If your birthday is between January 20-22, then the New Moon is in your solar return (varṣaphala) or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning a change is bound to happen, so work on that change. It could be a physical move, job change, relationship change, or simply working on yourself to integrate new patterns and habits into your life. Expect a great deal of transformative experiences that will make you want to change or take a step in a different direction. Mars Stations Direct
September 3, 2022. Mars enters Retrograde Arc or Shadow. This is the degree where Mars eventually stations direct.
Tropical 8° Gemini 07’. Sidereal. 14° Taurus 03'
October 30, 2022. Mars Stations Retrograde (Vakra). Tropical 25° Gemini 36’. Sidereal. 01° Gemini 32’. mṛgaśira
December 8, 2022. Sun-Mars opposition. Mars is closest to Earth and midway through the retrograde cycle.
Tropical. 16° Sagittarius 05’/16° Gemini 05’. Sidereal 22° Scorpio 01’/22° Taurus 01’
January 12, 2023. Mars Stations Direct. Tropical. 8° Gemini 07’. Sidereal. 14° Taurus 03’. rohiṇī
March 16, 2023. Mars leaves Retrograde Arc or Shadow. This is the degree where Mars stationed retrograde.
Tropical 25° Gemini 36’. Sidereal. 01° Gemini 32’.
Finally Mars stations direct on January 12th. Even though the exact date of the retrograde station is January 12th it has basically already slowed up, and will not move much until it moves direct and then it will pick up speed. As with all the planets between Mars and Pluto, the retrograde and direct station can be felt a week or two before its actual date, so as we see this planet of disruption go direct, think about what you may have been doing around the last week of October and the first week of November around the retrograde station that might have been disrupted, obstructed, or just left you in a state of frustration. Even if you do not know where it was in your chart, whatever incident was happening around then will be the key and this might finally be the time to revisit it and to finally move forward since there may finally be some optimism, and the desire to get things done. Even though Mercury will be retrograde until the 18th, which of course might still make you move slower than usual, take this time to put back into action things that may have taken a detour. If you had words with anyone, or expressed a difference of opinion, now is the time to get that relationship back on track.
Of course remember that Mars is still within its retrograde arc, as we see above, which means that between January 12 and March 16, Mars will once again do its third pass between tropical 8° Gemini 07’-25° Gemini 36/sidereal 14° Taurus 03’-01° Gemini 32’, meaning that the first time Mars passed through those degrees would have been between September 3rd and October 30th, the second time would have been between October 30th and January 12th, and the last time between January 12th and March 16th. If you have any planets, points, or angles close to the retrograde or direct station, you will feel the transit of Mars twice, and it will be most intense around the retrograde or direct station. If you have any planets, points, or angles in between those degrees Mars will hit them for the third time, though this time it should be a charm, as it finally will complete things that may have been uprooted or displaced since September 3rd, when Mars first entered the retrograde arc. If you have something at the actual retrograde or direct station this will be the second pass, but it will be a great relief since the ability to move forward will enable you to move on.
If, however, you do not have any prominent placements in the span of degrees between the retrograde and direct stations, Mars will still be travelling through a section of the zodiac, and thus, a section of your horoscope. If you use a whole sign house system or use Indian astrology, it will be easy to see where tropical Gemini, and sidereal Taurus and Gemini are placed. If you use a quadrant, or unequal system, you just have to see in which houses those degrees lie. Whatever those houses represent in your chart will be the area in which Mars has caused some havoc. Scroll below to find out more about that.
Remember that Mars lingering in one sign for seven months or straddling two signs for eight or nine months always occurs when Mars retrogrades. If you use the tropical zodiac, Mars has been in tropical Gemini from August 20, 2022 to March 25, 2023. If you use the sidereal zodiac (Indian astrology), Mars entered sidereal Taurus on August 10, 2022, entered sidereal Gemini on October 15, 2022 where it retrograded on October 30, went back into sidereal Taurus on November 14, 2022 until January 12, 2023, when Mars stations direct in Taurus, and re-enters sidereal Gemini from March 12, 2023 to May 10, 2023. Even though Mars was retrograde in sidereal Gemini from October 30 through November 14, it will still straddle the houses where Taurus and Gemini lie, even though of course Mars retrograde was in sidereal Taurus for most of its retrograde journey.
As I recounted in my Sensitive Degrees webinar, there are usually major events that have global ramifications around both the retrograde and direct stations. Even though Mars is moving in direct fashion on the 12th, it has still slowed down, and therefore has an intense effect. During this particular retrograde there were a few incidents that were violent and tragic, while others were also disruptive and chaotic. Around October 30, when Mars stationed retrograde, the following occurred:
10/25. Rishi Sunak became British Prime Minister.
10/27. Elon Musk completes twitter purchase.
10/28. Paul Pelosi was attacked
10/29. Many killed and injured in Halloween crush in South Korea; Somalia bombing.
10/30. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva elected Brazilian president; collapse of bridge in Gujarat India;
FTX Crypto exchange collapses.
11/3. Netanyahu re-elected Israel Prime Minister
Now that we are approaching the direct station on January 12th, Mars has already slowed down, making it more intense even though it will be moving forward. I always say that a week prior and a week after the intensity of the stations remain. These are events that have happened in the last few days.
1/7. Kevin McCarthy was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on the 15th ballot after four days of
voting.
1/8. Supporters of ex-president Bolsinaro in Brasilia, Brazil stormed government buildings declaring the election was
stolen, similar to what occurred here on January 6, 2021. Bolsinaro lost on October 30th when Mercury stationed
retrograde.
1/9. As I write this there were torrential rainfall and mudslides in California causing floods and evacuations.
Read if you use sidereal Indian astrology. If you have a planet, point, or angle in your chart between 13-15 Taurus, Mars stationing direct will pack a punch but one that will move you forward and remind you about some of the delays and obstruction, so that now you can regroup and take positive action. This is in general what will be affected if these planets or points are being affected.
Sun. power, vigor; Moon. maternal, mind; Mars. strength, courage; Mercury. speech, learning; Jupiter. knowledge, wealth; Venus. love, happiness; Saturn. sorrow, fear; Rahu. intensity, compulsion; Ketu. extremes, spirituality; Lagna. destiny, vitality. If you want to use Uranus, Neptune and Pluto you can look below at tropical Western astrology for their keywords.
The house that sidereal Taurus occupies is where the direct station occurs and which will once again be invigorated after getting hit with havoc and intensity, however, it is important to also look at sidereal Gemini since that is where Mars stationed retrograde and where it will be again from March 12-May 10th. If you do not know which houses sidereal Taurus and Gemini occupy, look at your ascendant, or Moon, or even your Sun, and just count from there. General descriptions for bhavas (houses) are as follows:
1. appearance, destiny, temperament, personality, constitution; 2. Money, family life, food, speech, early childhood; 3. Siblings, Fine arts, courage, desires; 4. Mother, happiness, real estate, vehicles; 5. Children, romance, investments, speculation; 6. Open enemies, work, competition, obstacles, illness; 7. Marriage, partners, contracts, passion; 8. Life and death cycle, research, accidents, other's money, inheritance; 9. Father, teacher (guru), religion, higher learning, opportunity; 10. Career, status, public recognition, reputation; 11. Profits, rewards, gains from work, awards, older siblings; 12. spiritual practice, secret enemies, foreign travel, debt, confinement.
