Developing Affordable Homes & Helping Communities Thrive Since 1975

Innovative Partnership Leveraging County Land for Deeply Affordable Housing Breaks Ground in Silver Spring, Maryland

AHC Inc. and Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland just broke ground on a 195-home, deeply affordable community. The development is one of the largest new construction, affordable developments of its kind in Montgomery County. AHC will develop 168 affordable rental units across six new buildings. Habitat will develop and sell 27 affordable homeownership homes — 24 garden-style condominiums in two buildings and three single-family detached homes with Universal Design features. The community will have 85 hard-to-find, family-sized, three- and four-bedroom homes.

In addition to large, family-sized units, the Randolph Road community will include a community center, onsite resident services staff and programming, a fitness center, and a half-acre public park with a playground, picnic area, inviting pedestrian walkways, and open lawn areas. Space will be available onsite for a future childcare provider.

The in-person groundbreaking ceremony hosted over 200 guests, including high-ranking officials from Montgomery County, Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland, the state of Maryland, and more. Check out coverage of this important AHC Inc. milestone in The Washington Post.

Capital One Helps Advance Digital Equity at The Spire

Nearly 70 AHC residents of the Spire in Alexandria, Virginia, recently received free Chromebooks and two years of free Wi-Fi courtesy of a generous investment from Capital One. Residents were offered the opportunity to collect one laptop per household and sign up for free internet access through Comcast.

Our Resident Services team plans to contact the remaining households for internet sign-up and free Chromebooks.

Take a Sneak Peek at The Terraces at Arlington View

The Terraces at Arlington View is an exciting 77-apartment complex that will be finished in the Spring. The new development almost doubles the number of apartments in the former building. The new construction will feature free Wi-Fi for each household, a parking garage with electric vehicle chargers, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances, and much more.

AHC on the Move

MLK Day of Service

AHC had three projects in this year's MLK Day of Service. Partnering with the Arlington Rotary Club, 180 volunteers came to make colorful, cozy blankets for AHC students.

Other families, groups, and individuals made & delivered more than 2000 snack bags for AHC residents. AHC also participated in a Listen & Learn virtual education session about current issues in affordable housing, sponsored by the Alliance for Housing Solutions.

AHC Hires New VP of Human Resources

Earlier this month, we welcomed Belen Topacio to the AHC family. Belen is our Vice President of Human Resources. She has many years of critical human resource experience in various compatible industries and for large and small organizations. We look forward to Belen becoming vital to AHC's bright future.

AHC Kids Thank Donors for a Wonderful Holiday

Last month, AHC youth received toys, food, and support from our sponsors and individual donors. Children from our various properties made holiday-themed thank-you cards to show appreciation for AHC's sponsors, partners, and individual donors.
