ANTIOCHIAN VILLAGE CAMP

JANUARY 2023

AN UPDATE FROM THE ANTIOCHIAN VILLAGE

WE ARE SO THANKFUL

WE HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU BEFORE WE SAY ANYTHING ELSE

When we went into The Fall Fundraiser to restore The Old Dining Hall just a little over a month ago, it was one thing to hope and pray for the funds needed to begin this project so soon, but it was another thing, a beautiful thing entirely, to see the spirit of giving that abounds in our AV Family.

At a time when many are giving to other worthwhile causes, when other financial responsibilities weighed on us, our Antiochian Village Family came together and gave a record $164,668.54 toward the Namie Hall Education Center Project, which brings us to $329,337.08 with the generous matching gift from our anonymous donor.

While we fell just a little short of our ambitious goal, the money offered towards this project should be enough to make a deposit and move forward with plans for Namie Hall. The renderings of the future of The Old Dining Hall are on their way to becoming real and tangible, and just like we saw the chapel resided to restore its condition last year, thanks to you, we will, God willing, begin work on this much bigger endeavor soon.

We wholeheartedly thank you for your inspirational spirit of giving, for your unceasing prayers, and, most importantly, we thank God for you.

We can't wait to welcome you back home with open arms to Namie Hall.

Session Wars - The Experts' Predictions Come True!

While we are still accepting donations towards The Old Dining Hall, we are ready to announce the winner of Session Wars.

In our competition to see which session can donate the most to save The Old Dining Hall, thanks to a large number of last minute donations at the end of the year, Session Four has won the competition by a narrow lead of $103.00!

Congratulations Session Four!!!!

We are thankful to all our sessions for putting so much effort into this fundraiser, especially considering how similar the top three numbers ended up being between the sessions at the end. For more numbers, check out the final standings below.

  • Session 4: $40,195.00
  • Session 1: $40,092.00.
  • Session 2: $39,727.54.
  • Session 3: $30,794.00.

Other Fundraising Numbers

We are also happy to announce that the giving from our Village family went beyond the Namie Hall project. In 2022, benefactors like you gave to:

  • The Shrine Project to replace and take care of our numerous icon shrines worn down by weather.
  • $5,050
  • Camper Financial Aid to help remove financial need as an obstacle to any child wanting to attend camp.
  • $5,243
  • The AV General Fund to help cover the general costs of running The Antiochian Village.
  • $4,645

These numbers are a representation of the truth to that old Village song that we will always be a camp family, that, "I am a Village Camper, that's what I'll always be." Thank you.

And now, here's a special video message from our camp director, Father Chris.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2023 IS UNDERWAY!

Registration opened (after a 3 hour delay and some unfortunate technical difficulties) at 12pm on Saturday, and, true to form, Session Two filled up all open spots for boys within 10 minutes, and all open spots for girls within 30 minutes.

We will be keeping a chart with registration numbers and the percentage of spots filled for each program on the homepage of our website. We recommend making plans soon if you have not already secured a spot in one of our programs, as we are at 80% capacity for the entire Summer already.

Please note that Summer Family Camp registration opens Wednesday January 18th, also at 9AM EST.

For Arch Week, our one week program for graduating high school seniors, we have 21 spots open.

For Byzantine Chant Camp, we still have 10 spots open.

Iconography Camp is almost full, with only 1 spot left for boys, and 2 for girls.

Session 1 has 59 spots open.

Session 2 is completely full, with a 75 person waitlist.

Session 3 is nearing capacity at 26 open spots for boys, and 7 for girls.

Session 4 still has 104 open spots left.

REGISTRATION STILL OPEN FOR WINTER CAMP

We still have open spots for Winter Camp, and will be closing registration on February 3rd. Head over to our website to sign up, and check with your parish priest or youth advisor to see if there's already a group going in your area. Come join us and practically the entire 2022 Summer Staff next month!

Winter Camp is February 17-20 and features as this year's speakers the camp legends Erin Ghata, Fr. Philip Rogers, and Karen Hanna

2023 STAFF OPTIONS

It's the New Year, and maybe you're thinking of a new way (or old way) of finding a place in Church ministry. Well, whether you're looking for a Summer position, a short Summer position, or something longer that lasts throughout the year, we have lots of options at Camp in 2023-2024!

We are also accepting applications for the 2023-2024 internship, Arch Week Staff, Summer Volunteers, CIT's, and more.

The Internship

Our Internship Program is continuing strong this year, and has led to two full-time positions for two of the participants. We're looking for interns to assist our full-time staff directly, whether that means:

  • Teaming up with Cat on planning our numerous programs
  • Working with Cade on development and alumni relations
  • Helping Tamalyn on the operations side of things
  • Going the communications route and assisting Nick with things like this very newsletter and countless other communications-related tasks
  • Or maybe you've got an idea of a need you can fill here at The Village that we don't realize needs to be filled yet, and you can pitch that to us in your application!

Interns are welcome to apply for a Fall-Spring internship, or a shorter semester-long internship if unable to commit to the full nine months. The typical week for an intern consists of a Tuesday-Friday work week from 9am-5pm, plus being available to help with most of our weekend programs.
