What is a piece of advice that you would share with a 9th grade student?
A piece of advice I'd give to a 9th grade student is to have fun but remember to keep up with your academics. It's a whole different type of school setting and it can be easy to get lost in that. This year can help you set up for a successful high school career. It doesn't matter if you continue into college or do something else, if you set yourself up with focusing on your academics you show that you are passionate in growing and that's a good trait to take on to your future. The gist of it is, I believe that you should focus on classes but also just have fun.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself a part of a design firm or a freelance designer. I also want to have my own business on the side of this where I share my art with others or even have a studio where less fortunate youth can express themselves through art. As you can tell I have no idea what my future is going to look like but those are some ideas that I'd love to see in my future.
What do you like most about CMU?
I enjoy how small the campus and town is. Growing up in a busy area it was really refreshing moving to a quiet area. It helps me focus on my studies and I enjoy that aspect of CMU. I also really like the Chick-fil-A there. It's such a life saver.
Do you have a job on campus? What is it?
I do have a job on campus! I work as a desk attendant at one of the on-campus apartments. In this job the main part of it is storing and distributing student packages but I am there in case anything happens or to direct people when they need help.
What is your favorite class at CMU so far? What did you like about it?
My favorite class has been geology, although I enjoyed them all. I enjoyed the professor’s teaching methods and the structure of the class. The professor was super engaging and made lectures entertaining so it was something I would look forward to rather than dread. The structure aspect was also what I loved, we had lectures online via video and then we would go in person to take a quiz on those lectures. This manner of teaching really helped me ensure that I learned the material my way and those quizzes helped check where I was on the material. Overall a great experience.

A Great Career Panel For Our Scholars
Thank you David Taylor with Ignition Creative, Cole Gray with IllFonic, and Colleen Weaver, a special effect artist for taking the time to be a part of our most recent Career Panel at Aurora Central High School. Our scholars were thrilled to learn more about media arts. Each guest works in a different role in the industry - from editing television and film content on well known shows such as Ted Lasso, Disney's Strange World and AMC's upcoming Mayfair Witches, to designing film sets for shows like Stranger Things and Pitch Perfect 3 and art direction for video games such as Friday the 13th, Predator and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. We were lucky to have such talented professionals in the industry in front of our scholars, where they could learn more and ask questions, further helping them decide what they want for their own futures!

Lunch with Our Collegians!
BHGHCO ended the year with a fabulous Collegian Luncheon! What a privilege it was to sit around with our collegians who are home on winter break and hear them telling college stories, talking about their majors and future plans, and just plain catching up with their Boys Hope Girls Hope family. Smiles abound from our kids who are on their way to incredible futures. THANK YOU for making scenes like these possible!
