Make a donation , make a difference

It's January, and the Membership Campaign for 2024 has begun! This giving season, please consider donating to the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. With your support, your Library can continue to fund the many resources that offer everyone the gift of lifelong learning.

In the year 2023, your donations funded the Library's Summer Reading Program which had nearly 2000 participants. It funded $13,000 for the purchase of e-books, e-audiobooks, interactive read-aloud Wonderbooks, and Great Courses DVD sets. The Friends donated $5,500 toward new furnishings for the patio in front of the Library. These are just a few ways the Friends supported the Library this past year.

The Friends also enrich the Library in other ways. The very popular Restoration Concert series brings world-class music to the concertgoers in South Pasadena and surrounding areas. The Friends of the Library Bookstore continues to do a brisk business offering great books at bargain prices and has a wonderful holiday book sale.

This year, your membership dues or donation will continue to make a significant difference to what is considered the heart of South Pasadena --- our Library!

Monthly Silent Auction

The Friends of the Library Bookstore’s January Silent Auction features beautiful art books along with vintage volumes. Three of the books on offer are:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the Art and Creation of Walt Disney’s Classic Animated Film

To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Walt Disney’s Groundbreaking animated film, the Walt Disney Family Museum organized a special exhibition and this accompanying catalog featuring never-before-seen artwork- including concept art, model sheets, animation, and more from the museum’s collection and the Walt Disney Animation Research Library.

Charles Blackman The Lost Domains, Text by Nadine Amadio, Alpine Fine Arts Collection, Ltd., 1982.

Blackman is one of Australia’s most significant artists. A true master of figurative art, his works have been likened to those of Picasso and Sidney Nolan. In 1997 Blackman was awarded an Order of the British Empire for his services to art and his works are displayed in all State Galleries as well as in many private collections around the world.

The Alhambra, by Washington Irving, author’s revised edition, G.B. Putnam’s Sons, Knickerbocker Press, 1891. Two volume set.

Irving wrote this book during his sojourn in the Alhambra, which was the royal residence of the Nasrid Arab kings of the Emirate of Grenada in the 13th century.  The book is illustrated with numerous drawings showing the interior architecture of the palace complex, as well as depictions of the surrounding landscape.
