Winter art appreciation classes begin this week with the debut of Page Knox's new series, Contemporary Artists of the Post-Pandemic Art Scene on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The course will cover contemporary painters, sculptors, and photographers who have been featured recently in major exhibitions and art fairs. The first three classes will focus on Bernd and Hilla Becher (12332), Thomas Ruff and Thomas Struth (12333), and Candida Höfer and Andreas Gursky (12334).
Bob Potter offers the first of his three winter classes on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, with a lecture on Artists of the American West: Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams, Richard Diebenkorn, and Ed Ruscha (12384). Learn about and view the western landscape through iconic paintings, majestic black and white photography, and modern, colorful imagery.
Galleries of Chelsea (12315) on January 18, 2024, is Ronnit Vasserman's first walking tour this term. Discover an amazing variety of styles in today's art world with pieces bound to surprise and please. The tour highlights the best selection of what is currently on display in the neighborhood.
On January 23, 2024, students will have an opportunity to explore Art in Transit (12303) with Riva Blumenfeld. This new installment of the popular walking tour will include subway stations that feature work by Nick Cave and the recently opened Grand Central Madison that houses installations by Yayoi Kusama, Kiki Smith, and Jordan Bruner.
