Hello fellow TCD members! It’s an honor to be back on the TCD Board and I am ecstatic to be working beside an incredible Board of Directors/Admin Team/Task Force Chairs: Will Flynn, Financial Director; Karen Eubanks, Rules Director; Shelley Vick, Ladies Director; Shelley Wainer, Love-50/60 Director; Renee Hinterlong, Pickleball Director; Laura Schussler, Membership Director; Alma Gomez, Mixed Director; Lesa Wracher, Past Presiding Director; Judy Steglich, TCD Administrative Assistant; Jackie Reily, Tournament Task Force Chair; Monica Goldberg and Teresa Risley, Placement Task Force Chairs; and Sue Deeke, Website Administrator. Our leagues also have numerous Flight Coordinators, Site Coordinators and Committee members that ALL help make TCD a well oiled machine!!

I would love to see and meet many of you at the General Membership Meeting on Thursday, February 15th at Bent Tree Country Club.

Lastly, I would like to challenge each and every one of you to have an attitude of

gratitude and positivity on the courts this year. Research has been shown that positivity and gratitude can help you live longer (not to mention play better tennis). Be the one on the court to say “good shot” to your opponent or thank your Flight Coordinator next time they answer your TCD questions. You can do it!! I believe in you!!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are excited for the new year. I’m Shelley Vick and am the Ladies Doubles Director for 2024. TCD volunteers have been busy working through registration and preparing for the spring season which kicks off February 29th.

I’m still looking for a couple of Flight Coordinators. If you’re interested or know of someone who would consider this role please reach out to me. TCD has amazing resources and a strong support network to make volunteering fun

and manageable.

I hope to see many of you at our Spring General Membership Meeting, Thursday February 15th @ 10am, at Bent Tree Country Club’s main clubhouse.

Please be in contact with your team captains as they prepare for the season. Schedules will be online by February 6th.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays and has had an opportunity to get on the courts. Registration for the Spring 2024 Season is underway and ends January 16th . Here are a few other upcoming dates and deadlines:

Jan. 16 - Registration deadline; final rosters/fees due

Jan. 29 - All Ladies Tournament Registration Opens

Feb. 6 - Schedules publish online

Feb. 15 - General Membership Meeting

Feb. 22 - All Ladies Tournament

Feb. 23 - Home match entry deadline

Feb. 27 - Love 60 Season begins

Feb. 28 - Love 50 Season begins

Mar. 24 - Love 60 player add/frozen player deadline

Happy New Year! I am Alma Gomez, your new Mixed Doubles Director, and I would like to welcome back our Mixed Double Teams! It looks like nearly every team from the fall is returning, and we welcome the new teams! It’s great to see that kind of growth in participation!

Our volunteers are the key that has made TCD the success it has been over the last 46 years. If you are interested in volunteering for TCD Mixed Doubles Tennis, please reach out, fill out our online Volunteer Form or contact me directly.

I hope many of you are looking forward to participating in our Spring 2024 Mixed Tournament scheduled for Sunday February 18th . It’s a fun way to kick off the season and get some games in before we start match play. Grab a partner and be ready to register on January 28th through the TCD Event Tabs. This event will close at midnight February 4th or whenever it reaches capacity. This event fills up fast so don’t miss your opportunity! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and are now gearing up for some fun PICKLEBALL! Now’s the time to work out the kinks that built up over the last several weeks.

We have a couple of Rule changes taking affect this season:

DuraFast 40, Franklin X and Selkirk Pro S1 will be the approved balls, and;
Only “USA Pickleball Approved” paddles will be allowed for league play.

With the extraordinary growth of our league, we are actively looking for new volunteers. As you know we are and always have been, with only a couple of exceptions, an organization run totally by volunteers. In order to continue to function effectively and efficiently we need YOU! Happy New Year!

I know it’s hard to imagine we will be playing tennis soon since we are all probably snuggling by the fire this week. While you are snuggled under your blanket take a moment to review the TCD Rules on the website.

We are all so blessed to be able to enjoy this wonderful sport. Let’s make it a great year! The number one rule is good sportsmanship on and off the court. Have fun!

TCD BYLAW AMENDMENTS

Happy NEW YEAR and WELCOME BACK!

As a new year is underway, there is a change needed to our Bylaws. As you know, the Board of Directors is charged with the review and updating of its Bylaws annually. The 2023 Board approved the following changes to the governing Bylaws of the organization and these will be presented to the General Membership for approval at our February 15th General Membership Meeting.

Purpose: To AMEND the sections of the TCD Bylaws that pertain to the following matters:

PROPOSED BYLAW AMENDMENTS

Article XI provides for the amendment of our Bylaws as follows: “These Bylaws can be amended at any regular General Membership meeting of TCD by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those members present and voting, provided such proposed amendments have been published and/or electronically distributed to all members at least two (2) weeks prior to the Meeting.” Therefore, this official notification and publication of the proposed amendment as of January 15, 2024 meets/exceeds the two week requirement noted in Article XI.

TENNIS

Registration for the Spring 2024 season ends Tuesday, January 16.

IF YOU ARE A RETURNING FALL 2023 TEAM, the procedure has not changed. The captain or co-captain must log in to the website with her/his Admin password and register the team. Instructions can be found on your league website under Forms>Downloadable Forms>Online Registration Instructions. Please update any existing player information as needed. Remember the application is not complete until your payment is received, and you get all the checkmarks in your application.
IF YOU ARE FORMING A NEW TENNIS TEAM, contact me at [email protected] for a New Team Packet ASAP. Please specify for which league (Ladies, Love-50, Love-60 or Mixed). Roster and New Player Information forms are due on January 16th at 5:00 pm. Your payment must be received in order for your registration to be complete. Please allow sufficient time before the deadline.

Registration for the Spring 2024 season will close on Tuesday, January 16th. If you have not yet registered your team, please don’t wait! If your team is disbanding, please email [email protected].

Registered team captains can add players to their roster online at Admin>Team Leagues>More>Player Add Form.

TCD IS NOW ACCEPTING

2024 GRANT APPLICATIONS!

TCD is proud to give back to our community each year by donating a portion of your league fees to area non-profit organizations. Implemented in 2020, TCD utilizes a grant application process to better ensure we are good stewards of TCD funds. Please note, our scope for grant applicants has changed from prior years. If you know of a non-profit organization associated with the promotion of tennis or pickleball, please encourage them to submit a grant request.

All applications are due by 1/31/2024.

Grants will be awarded by the end of March at the discretion of the TCD Board.
