On Tuesday, January 30, IPPSR hosted a Lunch and Learn at the State House Office Building, exploring redistricting and the federal court cases that overturned the state's latest maps.

IPPSR Hosts Bestselling Author Tim Alberta


On January 19, over 100 students and faculty attended an IPPSR-hosted event featuring MSU alumnus and bestselling author Tim Alberta. Alberta spoke about Trump, Religion, and Politics in his remarks, followed by a career roundtable geared toward journalism students.


State of the State Podcast


In the latest State of the State Podcast, IPPSR Directors Matt Grossmann and Arnold Weinfeld spoke about Michigan's Redistricting Process with Tony Daunt, director of FAIR Maps Michigan.


Legislative Staff Training


On January 18, IPPSR hosted a training for House and Senate staffers, educating them about the Structure and Responsibilities of Local Government in Michigan as well as the MISource platform.

Policy Wonk Blog


In the January edition of the MSU Policy Wonk Blog,IPPSR Associate Professor Jon X. Eguia of the MSU Department of Economics explores the IPPSR plan to redraw Michigan legislative districts as well as how partisan fairness and increased minority representation can be addressed. In addition, Eguia breaks down the other plans the commission is reviewing.


Daniel Rosenthal Legislative Workshop


On Wednesday, February 7th, the Daniel Rosenthal Legislative Intern Award Committee will host a workshop for current legislative interns and legislative staff. The event will have a panel of experienced supervisors discussing “intern best practices” and “intern career opportunities”. 

Panelists will address ways for maximizing the internship experience for both the intern and office supervisor.



MPLP Fundraising Dinner Tickets are Now Available


Tickets and sponsorships are now available for the 2024 MPLP Fundraising dinner. This year's keynote speaker will be Jonathan Martin, Politics Bureau Chief and Senior Political Columnist at Politico. The dinner will be held at the Lansing Center on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

MSU College of Law Event


MSU College of Law will be hosting a panel discussion of a new book, Justice Deferred: Race and The Supreme Court by Orville Vernon Burton and Armand Derfner (Harvard Univ Press 2021). Vernon Burton and Armand Derfner will discuss their book on Tues Feb 6, 2024, at 12:15-1:30 pm at the MSU Law School & 4:00-5:30 pm at James Madison College in Case Hall (Spartan Club Room). No RSVP is required.
