It may be cold and dreary outside, but not within the walls of JPII. January begins with our Epiphany Mass as we celebrate the visit of the wise men to see Jesus. It’s the time to remember and recognize Jesus as God.
At the end of the month, we will celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week, which kicks off with our annual sleepover. That evening we invite all our students to join us for games, crafts, movies and lots of food. Then, our secondary students are invited to spend the night. For many, this is the only opportunity that they have to experience a sleepover. The next morning, our Board’s Sunshine Committee will make breakfast before the students head home.
On the surface, the sleepover is a fun night for our students, but it is truly representative of the theme of Catholic Schools’ Week: “United in Faith and Community.” To help us provide a memorable evening filled with games, crafts, and food, we’ve reached out to our community for assistance. We were overwhelmed by their generosity by donating funds to purchase new crafts as well as a variety of the perfect sleepover treats for everyone to enjoy. We are grateful for the volunteers who will arrive at 6:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning to make the pancakes and sausage. Our supporters truly give of their time, talents and treasures.
Throughout the year, our community comes together to help us in so many ways. In this issue, we are highlighting our new nurses’ office that was made possible through funding by Maddie’s Miracle Foundation. This larger area provides more privacy and room for our nurses to attend to our students’ and adults’ medical needs. We are blessed to have so many supporters helping us as we unite our faith and community.
