Doing Business in Chile

Exports from North Dakota to Chile in 2022 totaled more than $28 million with crop-adjusted data from WISERTrade. The majority came from cereals ($13 million) followed by animal vegetable or microbial fats. Trade between North Dakota and Chile dropped sharply in 2015 and has slowly been increasing since. If you are interested in doing business in Chile, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • Chilean businesses tend to be less hampered by bureaucracy. Business leaders in Chile have a well-earned reputation for efficiency.

  • Avoid using aggressive hard-sell tactics when negotiating; instead, be up-front about your priorities and conditions for doing business.

  • While Spanish is the official language in Chile, it's likely that your Chilean counterparts will speak English.

  • January and February are usually the months for vacation. Try not to set meetings around this time.

All of this information and more is accessible through the AtoZ World Trade Database, available to you with your NDTO Membership.
