Ever wonder why deciding to start a habit doesn't usually work? Join our new Atomic Habits Book Club. This online meeting format should produce some lively discussion from the book, Atomic Habits, by James Clear, on the best way to start and keep new habits, as well as get rid of bad ones. Register, get your copy of the book, and start reading!
Our Otago Fall Prevention program starts again on Monday, January 8th, at Stilly Valley Health Connections. Join old friends and make new friends during this group exercise program. Increase your balance, strength, and well-being twice a week for eight weeks.
Our January Monthly Cooking and Nutrition Demonstration is starting with one of our most popular classes, Slow Cooker and Instant Pot Favorites, which you can attend in person or online via Zoom. We also have a trio of budget-friendly meal planning and prep webinars: Grocery Shopping Strategies and Money Saving Tips, Meal Planning and Time-Saving Strategies, and Seasonal Grocery Shopping.
Registration is now open for classes starting in February. Sign up now for our 8-week Preventing Type-2 Diabetes online program. Space is limited for our Strengthening Families program which is for families with youth aged 10-14. The program is held in person at Stilly Valley Health Connections. Are you ready to build better habits?
Atomic Habits, by James Clear, is a New York Times Best Seller that provides practical advice for getting 1% closer to achieving our goals each day.
Each meeting will begin with a short presentation of the topics covered, moving into an open discussion of questions, and reactions to the material. There will also be some worksheets and activities provided to put the principles into practice. Participants will be encouraged to read assigned sections of the book in advance. The sessions will be led by Katie Taylor, MS, RDN, with Sound Dietitians, LLC.
Date: Every other Tuesday - January 9th, January 23rd, and February 6th

Earn a 2-year Certification in Child and Babysitting Safety!
This course gives attendees, 12 or older, everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting.
Participants will learn childcare basics, how to interact with parents and children, caregiving tips and tricks, what to do in an emergency situation, and how to promote their babysitting services. Participants will also receive a CPR and choking review and a practice session. The class does not include CPR certification. Cost is $65, which includes lunch and snacks.
Sheri Elhoss, with Vital Signs CPR, is the instructor for this Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) training.

Otago Fall Prevention Program
Introducing Otago, a unique, progressive 8-week exercise program designed to reduce the risk of falls for Seniors.
Benefits of the program include strengthened balance, increased muscle strength, and enhanced general fitness and well-being.
Build strength and reduce the risk of falls.
When: Held twice a week, every Monday and Thursday, from January 8th to March 7th. Sessions run from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Strengthening Families Program
Strengthening Families is a 7-week program for families with youth aged 10 to 14 years of age. This evidence-based parent, youth, and family skills-building curriculum uses games, activities, and discussions in order to: prevent teen substance abuse and other behavior problems, strengthen parent/youth communication skills. increase academic success in youth and prevent violence and aggressive behavior at home and at school.
When: Starting February 6th, for seven weeks on Tuesday evenings, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Preventing Type-2 Diabetes: Take Control with a Lifestyle Reset
Take Control with a Lifestyle Reset is a comprehensive 8-week program taught by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who will cover nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle for reducing the risk for Type 2 Diabetes.

Weather Advisory
In the event of inclement weather, Stilly Valley Health Connections (SVHC) uses Arlington Public Schools (APS) as the guideline to determine if programs are cancelled.
In the event of a school closure, SVHC will also be closed, and all in-person classes and events at the building will be cancelled. If there is a delayed start at APS, all morning in-person programs will be cancelled. If there is an early release of students, all afternoon and evening in-person programs at SVHC will be cancelled.
Our staff will do their best to send out notices of class cancellation on Facebook, the SVHC website, and via email.
