January 2024

Langley Pos-Abilities Society would like to start this first newsletter of 2024 by thanking all of you, our members, for the extremely generous and gracious donations and support that you have provided throughout 2023.

We could not do it without you. By giving your time and donations, you are able to play a part in the process of giving others the freedom that can be achieved through living with independence.

Thank you for your support.

Our approach to accessibility and inclusion for all remains rooted in our mission as a charity: "To help improve the quality of life for the residents of Langley with disabilities by providing assistive devices, awareness and education."

NOTICE: MEMBERSHIP FEE

For multiple years, our membership fee was at a very low yearly cost of only $15. We work extremely hard to save our members money by providing low-cost (or free) alternatives for accessibility devices, mobility aids, and various other devices that are needed for different disabilities. This is the premise of what we do as a non-profit. With that being said, we have saved our members over 2.5 million dollars. With these huge numbers, it has been deemed a reasonable requirement to raise our 1-time yearly membership fee to $25.

Thank you for your understanding. We value your contribution so dearly.

NEEDED: MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS & WALKERS

We have a waitlist and need donations. These pieces of equipment are absolutely essential for many living with a disability. Let's help make life more accessible for members in our community who need these items. If you are able to donate, know someone else who can, or can spread the word about this area of need we would greatly appreciate it.

TOAD Program

We have developed several programs which promote understanding of and increase empathy towards persons with disabilities.

Ideal as team-building exercises, employee or management retreats, school educational experiences, seminars, in-services, or lunch and learn events, these activities are fun, interactive and eye-opening.

PUSH FOR ACCESSIBILITY: MAPPING PROJECT

Langley Pos-Abilities is engaged in a Mapping Program. The purpose is to enable access to public buildings for anyone who might have challenges, such as seniors, mothers with strollers, and people with disabilities. Disabilities include mobility issues, hearing loss, blindness, and many other conditions requiring assistive devices.

This can be easily accessed on any device (laptop, phone, iPad). We are encouraging all members of our community to take time and review different locations you go to in terms of 3 main accessibility features: mobility, vision, and hearing.

Accessible or Not?

Watch this video to learn about how important it is for people in wheelchairs and scooters to have proper accessible parking. Lack of proper parking in the right location can put them at risk or restricts access to their vehicle. Accessible parking isn't about convenience, it's a requirement.

Langley Pos-Abilities Society is grateful to have collaborated with SPARC BC on this project.

Accessibility Audit Program

Langley Pos-Abilities will assess your workplace accessibility, offer you a detailed report, and if needed, suggest ideas to improve your score. There are many low-cost or cost-free ways you can make your workplace a welcoming environment for people with disabilities.

Contact us today to receive an audit and assistance in making your facility more accessible for all.
