Message from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and an opportunity to spend some quality time with those you love.

Here at South Central LAMP, we thoroughly enjoyed our winter break, allowing our hard-working team to spend time with their families, but also to help refill that bucket. As an agency that works in social services, it is so important for our team to take care of themselves.

After the holidays, we provided our staff with a retreat at an arcade! The theme of the retreat was “Play!” As adults we often get caught up in all the do's and don’ts, and should make more time to play. Play has many benefits for adults, including improving our mental health, building relationships, and boosting creativity.

After play and food (of course!), we engaged in a little dreaming. We wrote down our hopes for South Central LAMP over the next five years. It was such an inspiring moment to witness senior and new staff write down their dreams for our agency. The best part was the feeling of comradery as we look toward the future.

Another inspiring moment was reviewing the list the staff created - filled with ways to support our community - to fill its needs and gaps. The staff was focused on bringing the best for the future.

I have said it many times - we are a community-based organization - this is our community, not because of where we are located, but because the lives of those we serve are often reflected in our own team. There is an understanding for many of us that South Central LAMP can make a huge difference in the lives of the families we serve, families very similar to our own. This agency is so much more than a place where we come to work, it's a place where we invest in the future of South Los Angeles.

Adult Education Program Update
Happy New Year from South Central LAMP’s Adult Programming! Before our holiday break, we celebrated by hosting many parties where we honored volunteers, and celebrated PCSLA kinship guardians and caregivers. Also, mothers from the Family Literacy Program organized a delightful Christmas caroling session for the three children's classrooms.

Our programs began again on January 8, marking the commencement of a fresh educational adventure. Mothers shared their New Year's resolutions and goals, contributing to a supportive and empowering community. We anticipate a month brimming with learning, growth, and the pursuit of dreams.

Thank you for being a part of the South Central LAMP family. Together, let’s make 2024 a year of inspiration and achievement!

Study topic for the Month of January: Clothing!

For January, our pre-K students are working on their study topic of “Clothing.” The children will learn about clothing characteristics, textures, and functions. They will also learn who wears what clothing as part of their occupation. The teachers are excited to round out their lessons having the children tie dye their own shirts.

Our toddlers are also working on the topic of clothing. The activities planned for this month will help the children to understand the types of clothing for different seasons, and to distinguish the difference between sizes of clothing that will include infants, children, and adults. They will also understand where the clothing comes from, who fabricates it, and how it's made.

The infants will be doing different activities that encourage independence by supporting children as they solve problems that come with putting on and taking off various garments. Naming familiar items of clothing and body parts. They will also talk about the clothing items using simple words.
