Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

Back To The Vax

Registration information coming soon for a fantastic Education Hour in March when we will have the opportunity to hear from two amazing women who are sharing their experiences with practitioners and public health partners across the country.

Lydia Greene and Heather Simpson went from vocal anti-vaxxers to outspoken vaccine advocates, and we are so pleased that they will be joining us in March to share their journey and give their perspective on how you can best relate to patients that may be vaccine hesitant.

Creating Awareness on Preventing Cancer and Disease

Vaccinating our teens and preteens against HPV will help prevent the development of cancer in the future.

Thanks to healthcare providers, public health advocates, and organizations such as the American Cancer Society, California HPV Roundtable, more parents are making sure their children receive protection against future harm.

Here's how you can help be part of this effort:

Preteen Vaccine Week is coming up in early March - check out the resources below and start planning your local efforts now.

Register Today for the CIC Summit in June which will include speakers, workshops and discussion on strategies for education and outreach.

Preteen Vaccine Week - March 4-8

Preteen Vaccine Week (PVW) is an annual California observance which will be held March 4–8 in 2024. The goals of PVW are to distribute information and materials through multiple avenues such as schools, providers, and the media to promote the preteen doctor visit and to raise awareness about routinely recommended immunizations for preteens.

The timing is perfect to start reminding parents and providers about making sure preteens are up to date for the next school year and ready for summer activities.

CDPH Health Advisory

CDPH has released a Health Advisory regarding an update on COVID-19 medications and the transition to the commercial marketplace. The advisory provides valuable information about COVID-19 therapeutic agents use, current availability, and reimbursement information.

Please see partial text of Health Advisory from the CDPH (below) and for full text - click on button above

Key Messages

  • There is an ample supply of COVID-19 therapeutic agents, but they have been underused – especially among populations disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, including communities of color, low-income communities, and residents of long-term care facilities. Studies have shown that COVID-19 treatments reduce the risk for hospitalization and death among individuals with varying illness severity and risk factors.
  • Lack of familiarity with new medications (understanding contraindications, side effects, and drug-drug interactions), and the misperception of drug scarcity have contributed to low treatment rates, including reports of eligible patients ultimately being denied treatment.
  • This health alert aims to remind providers that all symptomatic patients with a positive COVID-19 test should be evaluated for treatment with one of the U.S. National Institutes of Health recommended treatment options.
  • While previously available free of charge, patients will start to see cost-sharing and co-pays for all COVID-19 medications (like all prescribed drugs) once the U.S. Government (USG) purchased product supply has run out. This will vary by geographic location and pharmacy, but patients should NOT be charged for USG purchased product if it is still available.

  • Free telehealth and treatment options remain available to patients seeking prescriptions through June 2024.
