Habitat Update

Dear Friends of Habitat,

Happy New Year! As we step into 2024, I am filled with excitement and optimism for the opportunities that lie ahead. The past year has been one of resilience and growth for our community, and I am confident the coming year will bring even more progress.

As we embark on this journey together, I am thrilled to share with you our three main focuses for 2024. Each initiative reflects our commitment to create a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve.

  1. West All Saints Street Condominium Project: This ambitious undertaking will provide 12 affordable homes for residents of Frederick County earning under 80% of the Average Median Income. In the spring of 2024, we will welcome the first six homeowners, and progress will begin on the second half of the project.
  2. Home Repairs Program: This year, we are placing a significant emphasis on our Habitat Home Repairs program, aiming to make homes safer, more energy-efficient, and better suited to the evolving needs of the families and individuals we serve.
  3. ReStore Expansion: We are excited to announce our plans for expanding the ReStore. This expansion will increase the amount of donations the ReStore can upcycle so more funds can be put into other Habitat programs.

I am grateful for the support of our incredible community. Your dedication, passion, and generosity empower us to continue making a difference in the lives of those we serve. Let's make 2024 a year of collaboration and meaningful impact.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous and fulfilling New Year!

Gratefully,

Eric Anderson

What Home Means to Me

This month, we met with members of the Development and Marketing Committee to ask the question "What does home mean to you?". We discovered a common theme among our committee members, despite the diverse lives they lead. Through this experience we are reminded that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

Habitat Frederick ReStore

Navigating the ReStore: Your Essential Guide to Successful Thrifting in the New Year.

Navigating the world of thrifting can be intimidating for newbies! The abundance of choices and bargain prices can often create an overwhelming experience for those new to thrifting. In this article, we will explore strategies to transform your ReStore experience into a successful journey, complete with insider tips and knowledge from the ReStore team. Say goodbye to thrift store apprehension and hello to savvy shopping!

Shop Often.

Given that it is a thrift store, it's essential to make regular visits to the ReStore for optimal discoveries. With the inventory changing daily, frequent stops ensure you don't miss out on the best finds!

Prepare for Your Trip.

Get ready for your ReStore adventure by creating a list of items you are in search of to stay focused, amid the diverse inventory. Arm yourself with measurements or a tape measure for furniture fits, and don't forget to arrive early - the early bird thrifter snags the coolest finds!

Look beyond the Surface.

Don't judge a book by its cover, or a chair by its upholstery! Embrace your inner DIY guru. Many items from the ReStore can be transformed with a fresh coat of paint or simple modifications. Think about how you can repurpose or upcycle items for a unique touch to your home.

Check for Matching Sets.

If you're looking for furniture or housewares, check for matching sets. Sometimes, pieces are donated together, providing a cohesive look for your space.
