Reno artist Ruby Barrientos honors her Mayan ancestry through the Raices (Roots) Art Exhibit at Western Nevada College. Barrientos’ flashy exhibit includes mixed media, sculptures, drawings and prodigious paintings and is presented by Capital City Arts Initiative through April 12 in the Bristlecone Gallery on the Carson City campus.

The summit will be a great opportunity for students to participate in a student panel discussion, learn leadership skills from breakout presentations and notable speakers, win raffle prizes and receive free swag. Financial Aid Office Continues Carson City Library Office Hours on Feb. 7
|
WNC’s Financial Aid Office is continuing to bring its services to the community with its three-month pilot program at Carson City Library. On Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a WNC representative will be available at the library to answer questions for potential college attendees about financial aid terms and resources; provide detailed information on federal, state and institutional aid programs; and assist with completing FAFSA and related scholarship processes.

to First-Generation Students

Financial Assistance at WNC awarded scholarships and new laptop computers to up to 80 first-generation students prior to the start of the Spring 2024 Semester.
This exciting opportunity for first-generation students was created through a Nevada First Gen Network Microgrant and is a collaboration between Financial Assistance and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) First-Gen Network.

Scholarship in Memory of Carson Tahoe Hospital Nurse to Help Many Students
|
Providing compassionate care as a registered nurse for more than half of her life, Margaret Hoffman made a difference in many people’s lives. In her passing, Margaret’s husband, William, has arranged for a way that his late wife can still impact people. William has created a memorial nursing scholarship at Western Nevada College to honor Margaret.

487 Students Recognized on Fall Semester Dean's List
|
Nearly 500 Western Nevada College students have earned exemplary academic honors by being named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List. The 487 students making the grade for inclusion on the Dean’s List exceeds the 461 students on the Fall 2022 Dean’s List and the 419 students on the Fall 2021 Dean’s List.

Chair for NSHE Board of Regents

Western Nevada College Mathematics Professor Jeffrey Downs, who doubles as a regent for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), has been selected as vice chair for the elected executive agency for the state government. Downs and Chair Amy J. Carvalho will serve in these roles through June 30.

WNC Grad Krysta Palmer to Compete in World Aquatics Championships in Qatar
|
Western Nevada College graduate Krysta Palmer is gearing up to qualify for her second straight Olympic Games. Palmer, who won a bronze medal in 3-meter springboard diving in her first Olympic Games in 2020, will compete in the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in February in Doha, Qatar. The Olympic Trials are in June and qualifiers will compete in the Summer Games scheduled for July 26 through Aug. 11 in Paris.

Joe Dini, Beck Libraries Announce Hours of Operation for Spring Semester

Joe Dini Library on the Carson City campus is open six days a week and Beck Library on the Fallon campus is open five days per week for spring semester, providing students with the flexibility to visit the modern resource facilities when needed and succeed in their classes over the next four months.

During her educational career, Lisa Gallo Swan has been an innovator, adviser, coach, teacher, director, learner and more. She says those experiences and skills will come in handy as WNC’s new Fallon campus director. Gallo Swan previously served as an academic adviser and assistant athletic director at Oasis Academy in Fallon.
