Lowe's Foundation visits Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center

Lowe’s associates and the Lowe’s Foundation visited Southside Virginia Community College's Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center to support the school’s innovative skilled trades training program through a grant and Klein Tools donation.

David Green, Lowe’s Foundation board member and Lowe’s VP of tax management, presented Dr. Keith Harkins, VP of Academic & Workforce Programs with a $300,000 Lowe's Foundation Gable Grant as part of its larger five-year, $50 million commitment to help prepare 50,000 people for skilled trades careers.

Lowe’s partnered with Klein Tools to outfit SVCC’s electrical and HVAC training labs with new tools and equipment, such as hand tools, digital multimeters, HVAC sheet metal tools, personal protection equipment and more. Food Lion supports the Panther Pantry

The Southside Virginia Community College Foundation is pleased to announce that Food Lion Feeds has provided funding to support the purchase of food for SVCC’s on-campus food pantry, the “Panther Pantry.” Food Lion Feeds was founded in 2014 by Food Lion to address food insecurity in the towns and cities it serves.

SVCC’s Panther Pantry is dedicated to alleviating hunger among SVCC’s 10 county service area and student body. There are currently Panther Pantries on each of SVCC’s main campuses, located in Alberta, VA and Keysville, VA.

“We are grateful to Food Lion Feeds for their continued generosity,” states Dr. Quentin Johnson, SVCC’s President. “SVCC's Panther Pantry operates to alleviate the barrier of hunger among our students, and this gift from Food Lion Feeds will allow the Pantry to continue striving toward this goal.”
