KWTX Highlights DWD in Waco

KWTX, the CBS and Telemundo affiliate serving central Texas, invited our COO, Maria Darby, and representatives from our partners, McLennan Community College and Southern Careers Institute – Waco, to share how DWD’s partnerships are helping bring beneficial, free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training to the Waco community.

Another Waco Partnership Highlight!

The Waco Tribune-Herald recently highlighted our partnership with Southern Careers Institute and McLennan Community College. Our partnerships began last October and we’ve been able to provide many Dwyer Scholars not only with tuition support, but also other wraparound financial support for childcare and other barriers that inhibit their educational success.


“Dwyer [DWD] can be a significant game changer for a handful of students,” said Allison Halbert, MCC’s coordinator of community health. “It [nursing aide certification] is really the steppingstone to launching their education.”

1st Annual ACL Live Community Day

in Austin

Over the last few months, many Dwyer Scholars have graduated from CNA or GNA classes and received their certifications. We all know this is no easy feat! Check out some photos from recent Texas graduation ceremonies at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Lavaca, Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsville, and TSC Career Institute in Mesquite.

Partner Visits in Texas

Lisa Chamness, Director of Partnerships and Programs, and Alli Rutledge, Texas Community Engagement Coordinator, visited many of DWD provider partners throughout Texas. A few memorable visits included a pop-in at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation at Duval for a visit and tour as well as a stop by Creekside Rehabilitation. We love visiting and catching up with our partners!

Holiday Fun at DWD HQ

From festive outfits and tree-trimming to daily Christmas Elf appearances, a white elephant gift exchange and a holiday luncheon, our Baltimore team was festive and fun! Celebrating the holidays as a team was such a treat! We hope you and your loved ones had a happy and safe holiday season.
