This week, Morrone introduces Italy's Influence in America (13045), an encore to last fall's well-received and lavishly illustrated class on France's influence. This five session course covers Italy's contributions to art, architecture, food, and immigration in the United States, from the decoration of the Capitol building to the evolution of the American diet. Class meets over Zoom on Wednesdays, starting January 8, 2025.
After that course ends, Morrone will explore the Food History of New York City (13046), a series based on his popular course at NYU. Understand New York City in relation to the all-important matter of how the city has fed itself, from its earliest days to the present. Learn the history of NYC’s restaurants, bars, and cafés. Class meets for eight sessions, beginning Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Both of Morrone's courses will be recorded and made available for registered students to view up to one week post-lecture.
As the weather begins to warm, Poleman will lead students through an exhibition of everyday clothing from the past 200 years at the New York Historical (formerly the New-York Historical Society). House dresses, mini skirts, modern suits, uniforms, and sportswear are on display. Walking Tour: Real Clothes, Real Lives at the New York Historical (12985) meets on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Tour size is limited to ensure a personalized experience and class fills on a first-come/first-served basis. Sign up early to reserve your spot.
