Dear Clients, Neighbors, Friends, and Family,
I hope this new year finds you and your loved ones well. It’s been a challenging start to the year for us in California. The devastating fires in Los Angeles have been a sobering reminder of our vulnerability. Like many of you, I am deeply saddened by these tragic events. Many of us have friends or family in Los Angeles - two of my daughters also live there. Architectural Digest’s West Coast Editor, Mayer Russ, said it perfectly. “Our homes are the frameworks we erect to give our lives structure, meaning, and beauty.”
Over the past two weeks, I have spoken with several clients and friends about making our homes and neighborhoods more fire-safe. Below are several resources that you may find helpful. Home hardening is the new sexy must-have.
-
Fire Safe Marin: Our team proudly supports this outstanding organization. Fire Safe Marin offers invaluable resources to educate and assist homeowners in protecting their properties. You can learn more at https://firesafemarin.org.
- Products to Enhance Home Protection:
-
FrontLine Wildfire Defense: This company installs and monitors exterior sprinkler systems to protect homes from wildfires. My trusted insurance broker, Stan Sanchez of Epic Brokers, introduced me to this innovative solution. After meeting with Richard Hart, their Northern California Market Manager, I was impressed by the technology and its potential to safeguard properties. Feel free to reach out if you’d like Rick’s contact information. https://www.frontlinewildfire.com/
- Insurance Pro Tip: Review your policy to ensure proper coverage. If you hold the title to your home in the name of a trust or LLC, confirm that the entity is named as an “additional insured.” Your insurance broker can guide you through this process.
Market Update
The U.S. real estate market has experienced its lowest number of existing home sales in 30 years due to high interest rates and low inventory. However, the luxury market has shown remarkable resilience and has rebounded much more dramatically than the overall market. In Marin County, the $5M+ market experienced a 27% increase in 2024. Similarly, the S&P rose 23% last year, reflecting broader economic growth.
Nationally, the ultra-luxury residential real estate market also thrived. As found in the latest issue of Compass Curated, 1,744 homes sold at $10M and above, generating an impressive $31.39 billion in sales - a significant improvement over 2023. This demand for exceptional properties reflects sustained wealth growth and favorable economic conditions for ultra-luxury buyers. Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be another strong year for this segment. Click here to review Compass Curated - January issue.
Patrick Carlisle’s January Marin County Report gives a great snapshot of the market.

I am excited to share that Rachel Breslauer has recently joined as our new Listing Manager. Rachel and her husband, Dylan (a Marin native), moved here from Southern California. Rachel brings us a wealth of operations experience, and we are thrilled to have her on our team. | |
We are preparing many exciting new listings for the market. I will share more about them in the February newsletter. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you’d like more information on the topics mentioned.
Wishing you a Happy, Healthy & Peaceful 2025.
