A Letter from our Executive Director

Reflecting on Resilience and Community

January has been a challenging month for so many of us, and the impact of recent events makes it difficult to carry on with business as usual. However, during these trying times, I am reminded of the strength and resilience within our community. I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been on the frontlines, offering care and support to those affected by the wildfires. Your courage and selflessness are truly inspiring.

It’s also heartening to see the outpouring of love and generosity directed toward the Los Angeles community. In a time when comfort, assistance, and solidarity are so desperately needed, these acts of kindness remind us of our interconnectedness. What happens in one community often ripples outward, affecting many others in ways we may not always realize.

There’s a beautiful saying in Spanish: "Hoy por ti, mañana por mí." It translates to, “Today for you, tomorrow for me.” This simple phrase captures the essence of mutual support and reciprocity. It’s a reminder that when we come together to lift others, we’re not just helping in the moment—we’re building a foundation of trust and solidarity that will support us when we face our own challenges.

In times like these, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. But let’s not allow that feeling to paralyze us. Every gesture, no matter how small, can make a difference. Prayer, a thoughtful text, a comforting hug, or a donation—each act is a powerful contribution to the healing and rebuilding process.

Let’s carry this spirit of compassion and mutual support forward, not just in response to disasters but in our everyday lives. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected community, one act of kindness at a time.

With gratitude and hope,

Adult Education Program Update

Kicking Off the New Year with Impactful Community Events

We’re thrilled to start this new year with purpose and momentum! A heartfelt thank you to the Los Angeles Police Department for leading two incredibly valuable sessions for our community: a workshop on domestic violence awareness and a session on immigration law enforcement tasks. These events offered critical insights and resources that empower and inform our community.

In addition, our Family Enrichment Program hosted an engaging workshop focused on understanding different learning styles and exploring ways parents can best support their children’s educational journey. It was an enriching experience for everyone involved, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to share tools that strengthen families and promote educational success.

We look forward to continuing to host meaningful and impactful events in the coming months. Together, let’s make this year a remarkable one for growth and connection!

Early Childhood Education Program Update

Inspiring Young Minds This January

This January, our Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Afterschool teachers dedicated time to introducing our children to the powerful legacies of historical figures who shaped the course of history. Through engaging lessons and activities, the children learned about the incredible contributions of Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and others. These stories of courage, resilience, and leadership provided valuable lessons about equality, justice, and the power of standing up for what’s right.

In addition to exploring history, our Afterschool students are starting the year with a creative and empowering activity: vision boards! They learned what vision boards are and how they can serve as tools for goal-setting and personal growth. Each child crafted their very own vision board, filled with aspirations and dreams for the year ahead. To top it off, they presented their boards to the class, practicing communication skills while inspiring one another.

We’re excited to see the creativity and thoughtfulness these activities spark, helping children connect with the past and dream big for the future.
