CHAIR MESSAGE
Tom Reif
The Alera Group
Taking on the role of Board Chair is an honor. I would like start by thanking the Board, and the members of the Lisle Area Chamber for their support and trust.
I also want to especially thank Tom Thorton for his leadership last year and for handing off the reigns to me so smoothly. Tom has set the bar quite high; I will do my best to continue his momentum.
This is going to be our theme for 2025 – As Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress and working together is SUCCESS”! We are already headed in the right direction, we just need to continue to work together.
As some of you may know, I have lived in the area for over 25 years and I have 26-year-old triplets. I have been with The Alera Group, located in Downers Grove, for over 34 years selling benefits.
If you are thinking about inviting a fellow business to join us, THIS IS THE YEAR! Our focus will be, and should be, on YOU! Chamber members are what keep us moving. Chamber members are what keep us healthy. Your involvement in the Chamber will add to the overall health and growth of your business. We are in it together. We are in it for each other.
As your Chair, I look forward to working with our Executive Director and along-side my fellow Board of Directors. The list of credentials on our board is quite impressive! Collectively they bring an incredible cross section of knowledge and expertise. This Chamber has a dream team at the helm!! I am proud to be alongside each one of them. Together, I know we will “WORK TOGETHER” and grow the Chamber to new levels of success.
Sincerely,
Tom Reif

Small Business Owners:
Responding to the CTA, BOI and FinCEN Changes
|
The Corporate Transparency Act may require certain U.S. companies to disclose beneficial ownership information to FinCEN to combat financial crimes.
While a Texas federal district court’s preliminary injunction puts this requirement on hold, many experts expect that to be overturned. In that event, failure to file could lead to fines of $500 per day, up to a maximum of $10,000, and possible criminal penalties.
However, filing your Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report will help you avoid fines if this injunction is overruled. Waiting could mean scrambling to meet compliance requirements or penalties. ZenBusiness helps businesses confront BOI concerns quickly thanks to simple guidelines and painless processes. This is ideal for SBOs that want to avoid trouble and tackle the filing process in advance.
1. Determine if Your Business Must File.
A “reporting company” is any small business, corporation, or LLC that is registered with the state, unless exempt. Exemptions apply to publicly traded companies, banks, and charities. For example, a local tech startup in Lisle, IL would likely need to file a BOI report.
2. Identify Your Beneficial Owners.
A “beneficial owner” is someone who either has substantial control over a company or owns at least 25% of it. For example, in a small doughnut shop in Lisle, a partner who handles major operational decisions and owns 40% of the business is considered a beneficial owner.
3. Gather the Required Information.
Prepare:
- Business name, address, and EIN.
- Beneficial owners’ names, addresses, DOBs, and ID details.
4. File Your BOI Report.
Deadlines:
- Existing businesses: File by 01/01/2025.
- New companies (2024): File within 90 days of formation.
- New companies (2025+): File within 30 days of formation.
ZenBusiness provides SBOs with easy tips and tools tailored for BOI compliance, thus an opportunity to stay ahead of further measures and avoid penalties. This type of service also makes reporting your company’s information quick and manageable.
Additional Resources:
As of December 3, 2024, a Texas federal district court has issued a preliminary injunction for all states to block the CTA and its relevant regulations. However, filing your BOI will help you avoid fines if this injunction is overruled.

Congratulations to Don Smith from the VFW Ross Bishop Post 5696. In December, a block of Cascade Drive in Lisle was renamed in honor of Don Smith for the recognition of his many projects benefiting his fellow veterans in the community over the past 15 years.
Thank you Don for making the community a better place!

Executive Director Message
Jill Eidukas
The New Year is a pivotal time for businesses, offering a fresh opportunity to reflect on past performance, set strategic goals, and embrace growth opportunities. It is a period of renewal, where companies often align their efforts to capitalize on trends, innovate, and strengthen their market position. Here are some key aspects of how the New Year impacts business planning and operations:
1. Strategic Planning and Goal Setting
Businesses typically start the year by revisiting their vision and mission. Whether aiming for revenue growth, market expansion, or operational efficiency, clear objectives provide a roadmap for success. Many companies also conduct SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses to adjust strategies for the coming year.
2. Budgeting and Financial Planning
A new fiscal year often begins in January, prompting companies to finalize budgets. This includes forecasting revenue, managing expenses, marketing, or staffing. Sound financial planning is essential to ensure sustainability.
3. Innovation and Trend Adoption
The New Year is a time to adopt new technologies and trends. Businesses often look to integrate tools like AI, automation, or digital marketing strategies to improve efficiency and customer engagement. Staying ahead of trends is crucial for remaining competitive.
4. Employee Engagement and Development
Many organizations focus on refreshing their corporate culture and investing in employee development as the year begins. This could involve leadership training, team-building activities, or revised incentive structures to boost morale and productivity.
5. Market Analysis and Customer Focus
Understanding shifts in consumer behavior and market demands is critical. Businesses often start the year by conducting customer surveys, analyzing market trends, and refining their products or services to better meet client needs.
6. Networking and Partnerships
The New Year brings opportunities to strengthen relationships with existing partners and create new collaborations. Networking events, trade shows, and industry conferences are common during the first quarter of the year. Check out the Lisle Area Chamber’s website for opportunities for your businesses.
7. Marketing Campaigns and Branding
Businesses use the New Year to launch impactful marketing campaigns and rebrand initiatives. Themes of “new beginnings” and “transformation” resonate strongly with customers during this period, making it an ideal time to promote products or services.
8. Evaluation and Resilience
For many companies, the New Year is also a time to evaluate what worked and what didn’t in the previous year. This reflection fosters resilience and adaptability, enabling businesses to navigate challenges more effectively.
The New Year is more than a calendar change for businesses; it’s a dynamic period of reinvention, planning, and progress. By leveraging this time effectively, companies can set themselves up for a year of growth, innovation, and success.
Happy New Year!
