As we reflect on the past year, we’re proud of the strides made in supporting growth, development, and community collaboration across Christian County. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from an impactful year:
Building a Healthier Future: CoxHealth Rehabilitation Hospital
A new chapter in healthcare began with the construction of the CoxHealth Rehabilitation Hospital. SMCC played a vital role in locating and preparing the site for this state-of-the-art facility, which will bring high-quality inpatient services, new jobs, and expanded healthcare options to the community.
Paving the Way: $2 Million Road Extension Grant
Transportation and safety took center stage as SMCC collaborated with the City of Ozark, the Ozark Special Road District, and local businesses to secure a nearly $2 million grant. The funds will extend and connect 18th Street to 17th Street, enhancing access, supporting private-sector development, and connecting with the Chadwick Flyer regional trail system.
This long-prioritized project reflects years of strategic planning, including input from the OTO Major Thoroughfare Plan, Ozark’s 25-Year Major Thoroughfare Plan, and the 2024 Corridor Plan.
Helping Families Thrive: Billings Before/After School Program
By connecting the Billings School District with the OACAC team and facilitating a needs assessment survey, SMCC helped lay the groundwork for a pilot childcare program in Billings. This initiative addresses district-wide needs with all-day Monday care and before/after school services Tuesday through Friday, providing vital support for working families.
Local Business Support, Retention and Expansion Efforts
A local business was on the verge of closure, another considered relocating out of state, and a third faced challenges launching a new product. SMCC partnered with the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) and Missouri State University’s efactory to provide critical support.
By connecting these businesses with essential resources and showcasing the advantages of staying in Christian County, all three remain part of the local economy today. These efforts not only safeguard jobs and strengthen the local community but also highlight Missouri’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting economic growth statewide.
Signs of Success: Supporting Business Growth
When Signarama sought a new location to support their growing operations, they chose to relocate to Christian County. SMCC played a key role in helping them secure a site and redevelop it to fit their needs for light manufacturing and distribution, contributing to local economic growth. Improved utility capacity and high-speed internet access to this site also contributed to business growth and retention in the surrounding area.
Tourism and Exploration: Explore Christian County
Explore Christian County was created to connect people to the best of our community, from scenic outdoor adventures to charming small-town festivals and local businesses. Designed as a go-to resource for visitors and residents alike, the platform makes it simple to plan your next adventure, discover new dining spots, shop locally, and enjoy all that Christian County has to offer.
This project came to life through an extraordinary collaboration among Show Me Christian County, local government leaders, chambers of commerce, and private investors. Key partners, including the cities of Nixa and Ozark, the Nixa Area and Ozark Chambers of Commerce, and Thessing Commercial Realty, worked together to bring this vision to reality. Through a paid advertising collaboration with National Geographic Traveller UK, Explore Christian County is helping to elevate the region as a destination for authentic experiences. This effort plays a key role in promoting tourism and building excitement in preparation for the exciting developments and events happening in 2026.
As we close this chapter, we’re grateful for the partnerships, hard work, and shared vision that made these accomplishments possible. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue driving progress and exploring new opportunities for growth in 2025. Together, we can build an even brighter future for Christian County.
