January 2025

Lower Providence Library News!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season, we are so happy to be back at the library for another year.

I want to thank everyone who has donated and continues to donate to the 2024 Annual Appeal and purchased tickets for the Winter Raffle Baskets. These fundraising efforts supported by you, ensure that we can continue to serve the community that we love.

2024 Reading Wrap-Up

Every January I like to discuss my reading from the previous year including my top five favorite books and some of my favorite stats. In 2024 I finished the year with 92 books read with an average rating (out of 5) of 3.92. I am thrilled with those two stats for my reading year! I am honestly surprised my overall rating is so high!

In 2024 I had set myself a goal that 25% of the books I read would be physical books, not Audiobook or e-books and unfortunately, I did not reach this goal; 20.7% of the books that I read were physical books 41.3% were audiobooks and 38.0% were Ebooks on my kindle. I realized that the convenience of my Kindle and audiobooks that I listen to on my phone, and being able to take them everywhere is a priority for me. I know that it will be a surprise to no one that my favorite genre this year was Romance (26 books for 28.3%), followed by Mystery/Thriller (22 books at 23.95 and General Fiction (17 books at 18.5%).

And finally my five favorite books of 2024 (in no particular order)

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

James by Percival Everett

Sociopath by Patric Gagne PhD

These are the books that over the year I have continued to think about, that I continue to recommend to people and I want to go back and read again.

I am very excited about what 2025 has in store for us, and look forward to welcoming you all to the library this year!

Happy reading and see you at the library!
