January 2025 (No. 148)

Welcome to our newsletter. Once a month we will update you with news about David Matero Architecture and our community. We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! DMA enjoyed another good year with some great projects and clients. We were able to photograph a few completed projects, one of which was featured in Maine Home + Design, and are working on some new, exciting projects with fabulous clients. We also enjoyed some time away from the office at our summer Long Island party, on the golf course, and a fun Christmas party! Here's to a prosperous New Year!

AIA Maine VP

The coming New Year will also see David become Vice President of AIA Maine. As the Maine chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the organization supports Maine architects, and the profession of architecture, through leadership, advocacy, fellowship, and design excellence. The incoming president, Jessie Carroll, takes over for outgoing president, Gavin Engler.

Views from the Job site

Sophi visited the Salt Pond Retreat as the project is getting closer to completion. The open staircase was mocked up to review final details. Many of the finishes have been completed, and the gypsum board walls have all been primed as we wait for cabinet installation. The blower door test came in at an impressive 0.48 ACH. Construction by Jon D Woodward and Sons.

Camp Kokadjo

The roofing and masonry had been completed around the base and chimney at Camp Kokadjo by the time of Alex's visit. Along with the windows and doors installation, rough-in can begin inside the house. The house is designed to withstand snow country weather with generous roof, knifes' edge, overhangs, and double-thick walls, and triple-glazed windows and doors. Construction by Big Country Built.

Instagram Live

As part of Architecture Week, David was interviewed by Becca Abramson of Maine Home + Design on Instagram Live. They discussed the Clifden project which was featured in the November issue of MH+D. The discussion ranged from how it was working with a client who is also an architect, to how the landscape affected the design of the house. Interior design by Jeanne Handy Designs, construction by Oceanside Builders. You can listen to the 15 minute interview here.

Office Christmas Party

This year our office Christmas party was catered by Jessica, the UpBeet Ginger. We are working on her teaching kitchen in Portland where she will host cooking classes and private dinners. Jessica came up to Bath to cater dinner at our house and prepared a lovely three-course meal while David pretended to help cook (she should have charged extra). Tuna tartar, lobster stew, and halibut were just some of the featured menu items. Thank you Jessica for a great evening!
