As we step into a season of fresh starts and renewed hope, we're reflecting on the transformative impact that the institutions of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem have on people throughout the Holy Land. One story that captures this reality is the journey of Habib Danal, a graduate of the Episcopal Technological & Vocational Training Center (ETVTC).
In the bustling West Bank city of Ramallah, opportunities for economic success after secondary school can be elusive, especially for students who haven’t thrived in traditional academic settings. ETVTC offers a practical alternative, equipping students with hands-on skills and a strong foundation for independence. Founded in 2000 by its director, Giovanni Anbar, the school was created to fill a critical need for high-quality vocational training in the West Bank. Students enroll in two-year programs in hospitality and culinary arts or information technology, with nearly 94% of graduates moving on to full-time employment, additional vocational training, or university studies.
A Young Man, A Growing Dream
In 2018, Habib enrolled in ETVTC’s two-year hospitality program, where real-world training and close mentorship helped him discover his passion for culinary arts and lay the groundwork for his career. With encouragement from ETVTC staff and mentors, and driven by strong self-determination, he continued refining his skills through further studies.
Upon graduating from ETVTC, Habib moved on to study at Talitha Kumi College in Beit Jala, where he spent two more years honing his culinary skills. His efforts paid off in 2022, when he won first place in a culinary and hospitality competition among various colleges in the region. This award earned him a spot among just eight students selected for advanced training in Berlin, Germany.
