Happy New Year's Eve Day Friends!
(This is the toast that Lisa Krout shared on December 31, 2025.
We drop the White Rose Senior Center Turtle between 11:30 am and 12:00 pm because many of us can't stay up until midnight!)
Good morning everyone, and welcome to our White Rose Senior Center New Year's Eve celebration and dropping of the White Rose Turtle.
Thank you for gathering together today as we close the chapter of 2025 and prepare to step into a brand-new year.
This past year has been filled with moments that made us laugh, made us think, and reminded us what it means to belong. We shared meals around crowded tables, we danced when the music moved us, we made crafts that filled our hearts and our hallways with color. We saw an proposal/engagement between two wonderful members. We welcomed new members, built new friendships, and created memories worth carrying forward.
And as we celebrate, we also pause to remember those who are no longer here with us. Their smiles, their stories, their voices in our halls—though they may be gone, they remain part of who we are. Today, we honor them with love, gratitude, and the promise to keep their spirit alive in our celebrations, in our kindness, and in the way we look out for one another.
Now, as the clock edges closer to midnight, we look toward 2026 with hope. May the coming year bring us good health, new adventures, and laughter that echoes through this center just a little louder than before. May we continue to support each other, lift each other up, and appreciate each beautiful day we’re given.
So raise your glasses—
To memories made,
To friends we cherish,
To those we hold in our hearts,
And to a new year filled with joy, strength, and togetherness.
Cheers to 2026! 🥂
May it be our best year yet!

Enjoy Some White Rose Senior Center December 2025 Recaps
- The first week in December, we were honored to have the Department of Aging, the Department of Transportation and the PA State Police join us for "Older Driver Safety Awareness Week". Pennsylvania's Department of Aging's, Deputy Secretary Jonathon Bowman, an excellent speaker from the PA State Police, and others were present.
We all learned some safe driving pointers!
- Santa visited WRSC and pictures were taken of all the good "boys" and "girls" who attend the Center.
- Our long-time friends of 20 years, The Equine Singers, got us into the holiday spirit with festive singing.
- AmeriHealth Caritas and Community Health Choices sponsored a Christmas Dessert Bar for the Members that was delicious!
- The LIU Students and Staff came and collated our Home Delivered Meal January 2026 Newsletter.
- Lisa found some WRSC Friends from White Rose Senior Center, Deb and Ruth, at the West Manchester Township Holiday Bingo.
-
And, one of Lisa's favorite memory of December was celebrating John Wolfe's 100th Birthday at Country Meadows in Shiloh.
John delivered Home Delivered Meals for 20 years for
White Rose Senior Center and is a true inspiration!

SENIOR OF THE MONTH
Meet Gloria Bell. She is the Senior of the Month for January 2026.
Gloria will get to be "FIRST" for every activity we do the month of January, such as Lunch and Fresh Express.
How did Gloria get picked, you asked? Her name was entered into the mix because she eats lunch in the big room and participates in the activities daily.
At the end of the month we will draw a person for Senior of the Month in February!

We Need Home Delivered Meal Drivers...
Please, Can you Help a Couple Hours
One Day a Week?
We are loosing a couple drivers starting in January due to health issues and starting new jobs and/or are currently still in the workforce.
While their companies encourage volunteerism, there are meetings that must be attended at their job.
Interested in Volunteering...Any aged person who has a working car, a valid driver's license, and current insurance, and you would be interested in helping homebound older adults, we would love to meet you and talk about becoming a
Home Delivered Meal driver.
Meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday and Friday
(unless there is a holiday and we are closed) from 10:45-2:00.
Call or stop in between 8:00 and 4:00 Monday through Friday.
You may ask for Lisa. The phone number is 717-843-9704.
Look below and see some of our AWESOME Volunteers!
| | Elaina and Bill volunteer form Life's New Beginnings. When we went to delivering meals 3 times a week, a person named April McCue had emailed me from Life's New Beginnings. They are a non-profit that provides person-centered residential and community-based services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, focusing on empowering independence through life skills training, family style living, and fostering dignity and choice in their daily lives. A friendship/partnership was made and these folks have been amazing volunteers! | | |
Joel Nace is a long-time friend of Lisa Krout and her husband, Joel.
Joel works for M&T Bank and they encourage their employees to volunteer and give back to the community.
Lisa and Joel Krout were vacationing in Bethany Beach with Joel and his wife, Jenny Nace, at Beth and Steve Kehler's house in September. Lisa mentioned the need for HDM volunteers in passing and a light bulb went off at the table! Joel asked questions and said, "Sign me up!"
Maybe your company has a similar idea on volunteering and would allow you to deliver meals weekly or monthly. We are very THANKFUL that M&T Bank offers this concept!
| | |
Meet Debasish Mikerjee or "Deb" as he told us to call him.
Deb is our newest volunteer for Home Delivered Meals. He came to the Center to see what we offer and Lisa explained the Home Delivered Meal program and the need for volunteer drivers.
Deb is a very active man and drives for Uber and private trips. So, showing him a route sheet with names and addresses did not throw him a bit!
He has taken on a Friday weekly route and has filled in for some vacancies!
Welcome Friend!
| | |
Elaine has been a volunteer since 2011. She loves doing this "job" so much that she delivers on Mondays and Fridays.
She is actually off with an issue for a month or two, so we are looking for some "fill-in or substitutes" for when some "regulars" have to take a little time off.
We can be as flexible as your schedule
needs to be!
| | |
Well, we do believe is starting volunteerism early at White Rose but most of all, we enjoy getting to meet our driver's families. Many bring their grandchildren along during summer breaks!
This is Richard Monroe. He has been delivering meals for WRSC since and prior to that he delivered for Crispus Attucks. And this little sweetheart is precious!
| | |
Beth Mills is one of the sweetest people we know. She is also a friend of Pat Sweetman who started delivering earlier in 2025. Pat had knee surgery and asked her friend, Beth, if she would help out on her route while she recuperates. Beth started delivering in October.
Beth has met many nice people on her route and truly cares about all of them!

LOOKING FOR EXERCISE CLASSES?
White Rose Senior Center has them and they are FREE to persons 60 and over. Donations are always appreciated!

ON THE MOVE
As people age, walking frequently becomes more difficult for older adults; this is a common and costly problem. Individuals who have difficulty walking are at risk for losing their independence. One way to slow or prevent this decline in walking is through exercise. There are many community-based exercise programs in which older adults can participate. Few of these programs, though, focus specifically on the timing and coordination of movement in walking.
On the Move: Group Exercise for Improved Mobility in Older Adults® (OTM) is a group-based exercise program for older adults designed to target the timing and coordination of walking. The program challenges the brain to match the timing and sequences of your movements with your posture to improve the smoothness and efficiency of walking. To achieve this ‘better walking’, OTM has a variety of progressive stepping and walking patterns. When compared to a seated strength, endurance, and flexibility exercise program for walking, OTM resulted in greater improvements in mobility.
The 12-week OTM program meets twice a week for 60 minutes per session. It’s delivered by a trained exercise leader. OTM has a warm-up period, strength training exercises, stepping and walking patterns, and a cool-down period. The unique stepping and walking patterns in OTM are goal-oriented and progressive. This timing and coordination approach to improve walking is based on principles of the development of motor skills. As a motor-control based program to improve walking, there is a heavy emphasis placed on high repetition of accurate exercise activities. Music, props such as cones and balls, and partner-based activities keep our classes interesting.
(The Next Session Starts in February 2026 on Mondays and Thursdays at Noon.)
