February 13-16, 2026. Heliacal rising of evening star in the western sky.
From January 6-9. 2026, as we see above, the Sun, Venus and Mars are all conjunct, which means the first two weeks of January (planets are in orb a few days before and after) should be intense in the world with many twists and turns. Since it involves a combust Venus, and a volatile Mars, there is not much willingness to compromise or change, and tempers can be rampant due to the Mars and the Sun-Venus conjunction. The message at the moment is to take deep breaths, and calm down, since the intensity of the world will probably continue at least through the eclipses of February 17 and March 3. And if the Sun-Venus conjunction occurs at the same degree as planets, angles, or points in your chart you will especially feel them. (Scroll down for more information about that.)
As I write this on January 3, the news is changing hour by hour as far as Venezuela is concerned but I have to send the newsletter out. The new year already began with a devastating fire at a resort in the Swiss alps, a fire that ravaged a historical church in Amsterdam, and the United States has gone into Venezuela and captured its leader, Maduro, and his wife. As seen above, On January 6, the Sun and Venus form a superior (exterior) conjunction, meaning the planet cannot be seen due to the Sun obstructing its view, and the power of Venus to induce love, beauty, and peace is lessened and even obliterated. Because Venus is on the far side of the Sun, the last time Venus had its heliacal setting, meaning the last time it could be seen as a morning star, rising and setting before the Sun, was around December 14, 2025. Around that time, the power for Venus to provide love started to diminish, and on that weekend alone, there was the shooting at Brown University, the anti-semitic attack in Australia, and the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner. It was also the date that Ketu-South Node conjoined the degree of the total Lunar Eclipse, which takes place on March 3, 2026. This is an intense period. (More about this in my Sensitive Degrees webinar.)
But mostly it is a time when we have the power, at least in our own lives, to try harder to not fall prey to the influences around us. That is the reason that I mention the darker influences, not to succumb to them but to try harder to not let them affect our daily lives. When Venus exactly conjoins the Sun on January 6, 2026, it is considered in some traditions to be cazimi meaning that Venus and the Sun are within 15 minutes of arc and in the heart of the Sun adding strength to Venus. (Some traditions say cazimi is up to one degree of arc.) That does occur on that one day when Venus and Sun are completely conjunct.
However, since my practice of classical astrology centers mostly around Jyotisa, or Indian astrology, I have not seen the concept used in classical texts or teachings. Instead I have only seen it viewed as combust (obliterated from view due to the brightness of the Sun) and because it is farther from the earth it will be absent from view until, as noted above, its heliacal rising between February 13-16, 2026 or first time it can be seen again in the western sky as an evening star, since Venus will then rise and set after the Sun. This will continue until Venus is closer to the earth and will be at its brightest in the evening sky throughout September until its inferior (interior) conjunction with the Sun on October 23, 2026. (I will be lecturing about this for the Astrology Society of CT, and at UAC 2026.)
When Venus is combust, as it basically is now within orb, it will require effort on all our parts to maintain love and diplomacy in the world, and in our personal lives as I already stated above.
Because of the combustion, which means the Sun overpowers and blocks Venus from view, everything Venus normally represents including love, harmony, relationships, will be harder to manifest. Remember that astrology was originally based on observation and the ancients followed the planets in the sky and then saw them disappear.
The significance of this current Sun-Venus conjunction is that it is a superior, or exterior, conjunction, meaning it is on the far side of the Sun, as opposed to the inferior, or interior, conjunction, which is closest to the earth lying in between the Sun and the earth and occurs when Venus is retrograde. These conjunctions alternate approximately every nine months, with the next Sun-Venus conjunction, which is inferior, occurring on October 23, 2026, at Tropical 0 Scorpio 45, Sidereal 6 Libra 36 when Venus is midway through its retrograde cycle. As many of you know the Sun-Venus conjunction occurs every four years at around the same degree with the alternate type of conjunction and every eight years at around the same degree with the same conjunction.
So if you look at this present Sun-Venus superior conjunction on January 6, 2026 at Tropical 16 Capricorn 22, Sidereal 22 Sagittarius 14 and go back four years, the Sun-Venus inferior conjunction occurred on January 9, 2022 at Tropical 18 Capricorn 43, Sidereal 24 Sagittarius 39, and if you go back eight years the Sun-Venus superior conjunction occurred on January 9, 2018 at Tropical 18 Capricorn 57, Sidereal 24 Sagittarius 56. Although every conjunction is different because the planets around them are different each time, we see that every four years the same area of your chart is getting highlighted and if you go back and think about what may have happened the last time the Sun-Venus conjoined at these degrees you may have an idea where to give energy to in your chart.
This conjunction is also influenced by Mars so you may experience more turbulence in your daily life depending on where the degrees of these planets fall in your chart. Read below for the zodiac that you use.
Read if you use sidereal Indian astrology. If you have a planet or angle in your chart within 1-2 degrees of the Sun-Venus-Mars conjunction at 22 Sagittarius 14 , you will be affected by this from January 3-10, and this will not seem like an easy Sun-Venus conjunction of love, but it will still focus on creating love and prosperity, but may just present challenges. If you rise to the occasion, you will come out ahead. Look at the last times both 4 years and 8 years ago, when around these dates the Sun-Venus conjunction also influenced you, but without the added challenge of Mars. If that degree above conjoins a planet, or angle then whatever that represents will force you to deal with a relationship and will force you to work through what they represent. But the result will be positive and make you wiser and stronger.
Sun. power, vigor; Moon. maternal, mind; Mars. strength, courage; Mercury. speech, learning; Jupiter. knowledge, wealth; Venus. love, happiness; Saturn. sorrow, fear; Rahu. intensity, compulsion; Ketu. extremes, spirituality; Lagna. destiny, vitality. If you want to use Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and other angles, you can look below at tropical Western astrology for their keywords.
It is most important to see the bhava (house) the Sun-Venus conjunction occupies, which is Sagittarius. This will be the area of life, during the next week, where you will need to give your attention, since there may be challenges that will show their face, but the good news is that you will also have the power to create love, peace, and harmony. If you do not know which bhava (house) sidereal Sagittarius occupies, just count from your lagna (rising sign or ascendant), or Moon, or even your Sun. General descriptions for bhavas (houses) are as follows:
1. appearance, destiny, temperament, personality, constitution; 2. Money, family life, food, speech, early childhood; 3. Siblings, Fine arts, courage, desires; 4. Mother, happiness, real estate, vehicles; 5. Children, romance, investments, speculation; 6. Open enemies, work, competition, obstacles, illness; 7. Marriage, partners, contracts, passion; 8. (Note: Conjunction is the same as Cazimi (which occurs when the Sun and Venus are within 15 minutes and Venus Star Point. However, since I have been practicing astrology long before the Hellenistic and Renaissance Revival for cazimi, and before the Venus Star Point was trademarked, I still use the term conjunction.)
