I'm not a lay delegate or clergy; why should I go to synod? Isn't it just a more elaborate business meeting?

While we do conduct important diocesan business every year at our Missions Conference & Synod, the event is so much more than that:

  • joyful, reverent worship
  • forums designed to inform and equip everyone for ministry and mission
  • inspiring keynote speakers
  • robust Bible teaching
  • opportunities for fellowship and connection with friends across the diocese

The first synod and missions conference I attended was, simply put, outstanding.

-Rev. Clifford Swartz, Princeton, NJ

Can I bring my family?

Absolutely! We love and welcome your children. Free childcare sessions with a custom Bible curriculum will be provided for children under 12 years old. Children must be preregistered for childcare, so register today!

Can you accommodate my special dietary needs?

Of course! When you register, be sure to use the option on the registration form to tell us about your needs.

Do you have any lodging recommendations?

Yes! We have negotiated special rates with the Watermark Hotel in Tysons Corner. Once you register, you will get a unique link for Watermark reservations at our special group rates. Our room block is limited in size, so register soon!

Congregation Spotlight: Good Shepherd Southtowns, Buffalo, NY

Rev. Nick Sluyter shares a little of the history and formation of our church plant in Buffalo, NY:

Lauren and I moved to Buffalo, NY, in 2017 to plant and grow college ministries across several campuses in Western New York. Over time, our love for this area has only grown. Buffalo is where all of our children have been born, it is the place we call home, but it is also a spiritually desolate place. In a 2017 Barna study, Buffalo was listed as the tenth most post-Christian city in the United States, with more than half the population rejecting basic claims of Christianity as false. And as we discerned where God might be calling us to serve the Church, we realized: why go somewhere else when the need is so pressing where we already live?

Our aim is not to draw committed Christians away from faithful churches, but to reach the lost and the wandering sheep here with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And so we started the work of church planting, with the aim of launching a church that is classically protestant: committed to the inerrant Scriptures, rooted in historic Christian worship, seeking to make mature disciples, and where people would come to know Jesus Christ as Lord.

The church began by inviting people to gather for Evening Prayer every other Sunday. Over the summer, we outgrew our living room and moved into an empty garage that someone connected to the mission generously allowed us to use. In the fall, a local Baptist church opened their building to us, where we currently gather every other week for Holy Eucharist as we work toward launching weekly Sunday worship in a way that will be viable for the long term.

Alongside our main gathering, we have recently started a midweek Bible study, singing the Psalms and studying them together. Some new families and individuals are beginning to come, and the shape of the church is slowly forming.

Please pray for a partner in ministry, another priest or deacon, to join the mission and help carry the work; for several mature Christian families to commit and help establish the culture of the church; and for fruitful outreach and evangelism.

Haiti Mission Update

The Living Word Anglican Mission of Haiti supports 15 congregations and numerous benevolent works such as agricultural projects, a health clinic, two bakeries, and three schools:

Haiti is essentially a failed state; gang violence is common and deep poverty is nearly universal. Obtaining clean drinking water can be a serious challenge. Several of the wells serving our congregations are in need of repair (see photos below). If you or your congregation are interested in sponsoring one of these repair projects, please contact Mrs. Brenda Dobbs.

Many thanks to those of you who have already contributed!

Sponsored by the American Bible Society and the Center for Hebraic Thought, the Bible First Politics Conference is a free two day conference March 24-25 in Philadelphia. Among the speakers are Miroslav Volf, James Wood, and our own Dr. Miles Smith IV of Holy Trinity, Hillsdale. Registration is free, but the number of seats is limited!

ACNA Provincial Matters

Bishop Julian is serving as Dean of the Province (ACNA) and is giving oversight and leadership into provincial operations during this season. This is a challenging and difficult time for everyone involved in these matters; please keep them all in your prayers. Please join us in praying this prayer from Archbishop William Laud:

Gracious Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior. Amen.
